Looks more like a periscope. But it apparently works well. I like the idea of having the option to put a viewfinder directly above the lens and as close as possible to its axis.
Usually I don't keep the rangefinder "FONOR" on the camera, but in my pocket. A Fonor is incredibly precise. They date back from before WW1 when Leitz made them for hunters and so on. Of course huge models of them were used in WW1 for the artillery.
It is nice to use a SBOOI in the accessory-shoe. The built in finder of the Leica I is unusable. It is more a 35mm finder than a 50mm one.
The quality of the lenses is very uneven. This one is very good. I cleaned it inside to remove the haze from the elements.
I keep thinking I want an early Leica (Leica A), but only if it were a truly "usable" camera that I could actually use with satisfactory results. They're dang pretty, but I require function as well.
Erik seems to get "satisfactory" results.........No?
