someone from NE sold me a green half case luigi to pimp my MP and then I went out and bought a red feather for my dark brown fedora.

Dear Ronald,
I've nothing against CLAs when they're needed, as was clearly the case with your camera, though equally, a plain shutter repair and general mucking-out (not a full CLA) is all I'd have gone for.
What I am against is the idea that newly acquired old cameras need a CLA as a matter of course, even if they're working fine -- we agree on that -- and (still more) I have my doubts about the cheap so-called CLAs that some people go for. I know a number of good camera mechanics and while it's perfectly possible to do a good repair and a bit of mucking-out for $100/75 euro/GBP 60, a full strip, clean and overhaul at that price strikes me as unlikely.
I knew of one UK repairer (not one of my friends) whose 'CLA' sometimes consisted of syringing the works with 5% clock oil dissolved in ether; the ether removed most of the crap, and the residue of clock oil provided the lubrication...
As for the blue leather, well, de gustibus non disputendum est, and while it's pretty in it's way, I'm not sure how happy I'd be trying to use it unobtrusively.
Cheers,
R.
don't know what that means but i'm guessing it's not good ...

De gustibus non est disputandum
(day GOOS-ti-boos nohn est dis-***-TAHN-dem) Latin for “There’s no disputing about taste.” Another version of this saying is “There’s no accounting for taste.”
thought so ...

Also, of course, de gustibus ain't what dey used to be.
I can't believe I made two mistakes in one sentence, mis-spelling disputandum and using it's for its. Must have been the VERY liquid lunch at the Old Folks' Club.
Cheers,
R.

Hey has anyone used the soft release stuff for their cameras? Does it really make a difference in shooting?

Yeah, it makes you a twitchy shooter. And if you use the light meter on your camera you may be trying to get a ready and then *chachink*. But I honestly love them; It makes you into a human tripod (jokes?
