There's this funny thing happening on the Leica forum at photonet. A couple of photographers have challenged each other to a photo shoot-out. Matt M (from Toronto, yeah!) has "called out" some guy from Califonia called El Fang who is quite verbose and caustic in his posts to the forum. I think El Fang is a digital proponent and Matt is a (Leica) rangefinder/film supporter. Matt is willing to travel to California to take on El Fang to get him to "put up or shut up". What a hoot! Interesting reading.

Boy, I like the cozy atmosphere here!

If you're interested, here's the link: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00A8Vl

A poster named Saotome Genma provides a link to the original thread where the challenge was first made.

That thread should be made into a sticky, stays on top of Leica forum with bold red flashing fonts: The Shame Memoir of Leica Forum.

But hey at least I had a few good laughs reading the first few posts in that thread! :D

While mildly amusing, the whole thing is disgusting. I much prefer the atmosphere here.

Of course, here we all know the Leica is better than a digital already, no need to prove it (i'm kidding, I'm kidding, don't throw anything) :)

Hey, I solved that quandary, I got a digital Leica.

I have a camera - who wants to fight me? I once removed a man's spleen with a trigger winder just because I didn't like the way he looked. I am a bad man.

Good one John.

Before anyone takes me too seriously, I was just kidding around. The best camera is the one you're taking pictures with as far as I'm concerned.

Although, if the Leica guy over on photo.net loses, he can use the superior weight of his camera to beat the crap out of the other guy...

"There is no personal problem that can't be resolved the the discreet use of high explosives". - LOL

I think we should meet in Hawaii this February and settle this "my camera can beat-up your camera" business for once and for all. It might take two or three weeks...during the coldest part of the winter. I'm issuing a challenge!

D2

Oooh, Hawaii in February vs. Cleveland in February... if I concede defeat in advance can I still come? I promise I'll talk trash about someone else's camera to make it look good.

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting,
those jerks were fast as lightning

In fact it was a little bit fright'ning,
but they fought with expert timing

:D ....

Oh, that's real funny Harold! I'm only 2 hours south of you. I'll be up there this weekend to take you on. 3 rolls of film each, maximum! I'll show you who's the Sheriff around here! I'll even come up to your crib, and beat you in your own yard.

What's that? Yeah, I thought you'd tone it down! You just bought a piece of me, funny man!

Oh, if I don't show up by the holidays, order a pint of the focusing fluid, and start without me....

Russ :D

You're right there. Friendly people and an open atmosphere. No Nikon-Canon-Leica bashing here - or not too much, anyway :)

This thread seems to be as much fun as that over there :)

I took part in a mass shoot out, 24 tasks in 12 hours with one 24 roll of film. I started with No. 337 and finished in the top 50.
Every three hours we met at a new location and where given new tasks and the next meeting point. Mostly the tasks where ambiguous and connected to some points of interest in Bremen which were very far from the meeting point or better shot at the last location :).
For example "Im Fluss" can mean "in the river" or "in the flow

So looking at the results from 150 fotografers who finished was at least as much fun as walking around and shooting.

Some friends and I are thinking about something like this jus with single use cameras as most of them don't own analogue equipment and lending a Zorki 4 to someone used to a Canon 20d is invidious.

I just returned from Matanzas, Cuba. No money and leave days left :-(

The rest of my money and spare time will be spent for developing and scanning

and I have used Digital since 1981 when we had to have the sensor arrays custom made. Leica's are better than Digital. ANYONE who has used digital cameras for longer than I have may feel free to contradict me.

No, I didn't use digital then and don't want to contradict you.

Everybody knows, that drum scanned Velvia 50 in 135 delivers more than 1000 Megapixels and Tri-X has at least 12 stops dynamic range.

There is only one problem. I need a color film with 8 to 9 stops and nearly no grain at ISO 800 to shoot the pictures for the magazin which goes into print next monday. The scans shouldn`t cost more than what I'm paid for the pics and it would be great, if I can have them tonight :)
