pissing match on photonet

This is my favoite post on the Photo.net thread:

"josh -- with all due respect, the main reason people hang around the leica forum is to be threatened and insulted."

No, I didn't use digital then and don't want to contradict you.

Everybody knows, that drum scanned Velvia 50 in 135 delivers more than 1000 Megapixels and Tri-X has at least 12 stops dynamic range.

There is only one problem. I need a color film with 8 to 9 stops and nearly no grain at ISO 800 to shoot the pictures for the magazin which goes into print next monday. The scans shouldn`t cost more than what I'm paid for the pics and it would be great, if I can have them tonight :)

The Fuji Superia 800 X-Tra "Press" is incredible. I rate it @ 650, and the colors are great, and with the fine grain of it's 400 speed brethren. Amazing film! Try it.

Superia 800 is very nice. I keep a few rolls of it around all the time, and it doesn't seem to be very heat sensitive either.

The collector in me still wants an old Nikon F_something (would have been nice if Nikon made affordable RF's in the 70's). I already have Canon, Minolta, Leica, Zeiss, Pentax & others, digital and film cameras. Unlike Brian though, I can't afford a Leica that's better than my Canon 300D.

Must be close to Fujipress800. I shoot that mostly in a Contax G2 and a TVS when I have to avoid flash and can't use a bigger camera. IMHO it's better than Kodak Royal 800 but not much better than my D60 at ISO800 and worse than a 10d.

The attached picture is Fujipress800 scanned at a local minilab

Nice exposure, Socke!

I simply saw the link to the discussion and skipped it. Probably will read it when my work gives me some respite and... heck! Why bother. The reason I like this site is that people are really cordial, nobody feels the need to rough up anyone, and all users like their cameras and the place too much to soil it with childish disputes.

Plus, I'm the best around here! ;) Who'll contest that one? :D

Should I add that the above post was made before having a cup of (much needed) coffee, and therefore not being completely conscious?

I guess I did add it now...

Better stick to the topic: nicely exposed shot, Socke!

Thanks for the flowers, I forward them to the engineers who designed the Contax G2 and those who taught me how to use the exposure compensation wheel :)

The Superia X-Tra films, are the exact same emulsions as the "Press" versions. The only difference is that the Press versions only come in 36 exposure rolls. Which is great. I really dislike the short rolls. (24 exposures)

Sorry to be so late to this thread, but I don't get here as often as I'd like.

Istarted with the LUG, got disgusted there, went to the LEGleft that and went to photonet forums. They are all the same with the wrong people moving on after they throw some bombs and insult people. After a couple of years of listening to these guys I decided that I didn't want to be associated with them in any way. I took a look at my Leica inventory, which at that time was 2M6's an M5, a CLE and a CL. I sold the M6's and the CL, moved to other rangefinders and never looked back. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of the M5 and CLE-I actually used them to take pictures and not to fondle or admire. Every so often I go to photonet Lieca forum and last about two visits. I really don't need politics mixed with my cameras, and I already know which Billingham bag to use if I ever feel the need to buy one.

As I said earlier, I don't get here nearly often enough because this is a great group, and I thank all of you for some great reading and information

Russ, I can see it now...

First man in white lab coat (holding pint glass of Guiness): "What was that idea"
Second man (also holding pint): "It's also a focusing aid for photographers"
Men in unison: "BRILLIANT!"
< They drink.>

I think I've seen way too many commercials... must cut down on late night TV.

Oh and Socke, nice shot, well framed.
