i have changed the skins on a number of cameras in the past...always needing to remove the old one first...never had a real problem doing so...but this m4-p is fighting me tooth and nail!!
i have soaked it with various liquids and gels and taken my very sharp pocket knife to it but barely have removed a few small pieces...despite putting a nice sized hole in my finger tip...

maybe a hair dryer is next...heat guns might affect the lubricants (i have read this)...

I've spent 4-5 hours removing an old polaroid pathfinder camera's leather. had to use a hair dryer. careful not to damage the camera.

not my nail...the other side of my finger tip...it's frustrating when you have a low pateince level...

the heat worked and it is now done...the m4-p still looks like a user but it's now a handsome user!

I have done this twice, chemical method with my M4-P and oven with my M4-2. Heating required disassembling of the camera and removing all springs from the shell but vulcanite came of easily and quickly. Chemical method using paint stripper took me two evenings but no disassembling was necessary. I have written about both ways here on RFF including photos.

I remember reading that paint stripper is actually a recommended method. I well imagine that it's very messy! Probably should only be undertaken by extremely neat, methodical people who can avoid getting the stuff where it doesn't belong. Me, I fill in the bare spots in the vulcanite with liquid electrical tape. The result has a certain charm . . .

i tried paint stripper, alcohol and goo gone...refused to budge...
old hair dryer and it was off in seconds! no disassembly required...new skin went on with ease as well.
