I have a IIIf that I've been caretaking for the past few years. So I thought I'd give it some TLC.

I'm sure it needs a CLA. And I know for a absolute fact that it needs a resilver or replacement of it's RF mirror.

Any suggestions on where to get this done? I know I could send it to Sherry or DAG for the CLA. But I was hoping to find somewhere that could do the mirror at the same time. And for some reason it sticks in my head that it's a repair that not many do.

Essex in New Jersey did this repair on my IIIf several years ago, the RF looks like new.

I would be surprised if DAg and Sherry cannot do this. I was quite happy with the job that Essex did for me, and on my M3 finders that had some "crazing".

I don't yet own an Leica LTM but I've been checking to see what it would cost to put one in good workng order. I spoke with John Maddox in Greenville, SC, who has a reputation for excellent LTM rehabilitation. His current prices are: 1. CLA=$115 2. Shutter curtain replacement= $72 for first curtain, $48 for second curtain 3. New beam splitter=$102.
He is a very articulate fellow and seems like a good guy. His phone # is [864] 297-6931. You have abetter chance of reaching him between 4&6PM.

A "tuneup"? Is that a cleaning or a real resilver? I don't think that a cleaning will help this camera much. The RF image is 99% gone.

Actually he quoted total replacement of the mirror.
I recall that you can buy the mirror material from Edmond scientific for a few bucks.
His quote was extremely reasonable. I would recommend contacting him or someone of your trust to check out yourself.

Per Joerg's posts, my understanding is that replacing the mirror in a thread mount Leica is not a big deal. I got a IIIc + a lens overhauled, including mirror replacement, in late 2004 by DAG for under $200.

It's getting the mirrors & prisms in an M3 or M2 recemented or resilvered that's a big deal.

Also, I believe I read somewhere that Sherry no longer works on the thread mount Leicas.
