Planar in a Leica mount?

Did Zeiss ever make a Planar for a Leica mount?

I know that there are LTM Sonnars and Tessars out there, but I'm looking for a Planar.

Oh yes... doah. I guess I've been sniffing the fix for too long again...

I am really looking for a LTM for my Bessa R. Or the other option is to sell my R and buy an R2/R2a.

Stu 🙂

No, @ least not from any factory. However, someone out there may have had a custom conversion done for their lens, e.g., the 1950s 35/3.5 Planar for Contax RF or the modern 45/2 Planar, etc. for the Kyocera Contax G.

The reason why I'm browsing for a Planar is that I adore both my 80mm Planars (T* and non-T*) on my 'blad. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to performance my 'cron is fantastic, the previously owned Nikkor was OK'ish and the J-8 is in another plane of existence altogether. But it would be nice to have some Zeiss in there as well. After all Zeiss is nice.

I'm looking for 50mm 'ish lens for my Bessa-R. Lovely little monster, but shes a bit bare and feels unwanted after her lens set was adapted to the M2 and I doubt it's going back soon. The only spare LTM I have is my 9cm Elmar and that lovely J-8 is for the Zorki only, plus the Zorki "bites" when I tried take the lens off it.
Another option to think about is a 50mm Canon LTM. I believe they follow the Zeiss formula. (Brian, Joe???) and my Canonets seem to have that Planar like glow I like.

Then again this could be the first signs of GAS...
...Naaa.

Both the 50/1.8 and the 1.2 are Planar designs, I have the former (and soon will receive the later, I hope) and love it, you can browse some results with it on a Canon P on my gallery.

F/1.2 lens....Hmmphhh I'm green from envy!

Hope this helps, soon-to-be Canon 50/1.8 user ! 😉

WHAT! The 1.8 and 1.2 ARE Planars!

Now you've gone and done it now, I've been eBay free for the last 6 weeks and well... any Canon 50mm 1.8/1.2's in the Melbourne stores?

I feel the on set of GAS now...

Stu 🙂

There's a Canon 50/1.2 with its dedicated vented lens hood in Melbourne. Do you want me to have a close look of it Stu?

😉

I forsee spending cash for Melbourne disappearing real quick.

Yes that would be grand Kris!

Stu 🙂

Hey that was fast ! Sorry for greenvying you friends
If the price is good, have in mind that the vented hood often goes for the same as the lens, so it may be a nice grab !
Good luck, Planar boy !

I have a Canon 50mm 1.8 in excellent condition. Interested? I also have Canon filter, hood and cap.
