Is an "SM" camera one of those that pinch you or tie you blindfolded to the bed?

I have a IIIc I bought here in the classifieds. It has peeling chrome which does not affect it's function.( I was a bit disturbed at first because I thought it was rust and was afraid that iot would crumble away.)
The curtains were in top conditon , The RF was low contrast the quick remedy was a piece of orange plastic from a plastic nevelope other member recommended a piec of developed colour film but that was much too dark. The alternative would be an original OKARO filter by Leitz for another 50 $ or a new beamsplitter. My solution turned out thecheapest and best so far (of course I had to look after the right brand of envelope - I don´t even Know the proper English word for it..it´s stationery from "bene")
They work with FSU lenses...I would recommend the J 12 with an additional 35mm finder or a collapsible Industar 22 which at 3,5f as largest aperture gives good results even when it comes to the different standard when focusing FSU lenses on a Leica Standard body.

The rangefinder mirror is about a $75 repair. Improves focusing accuracy only in that you can see what you are doing.
There are masses of close-up options for the screwmount Leica. The NOOKY (for 50/3.5 Elmar) or NOOKY-HESUM (for 50/2.5 Hektor, 50/2.0 Summar, or 50/2.0 Summitar) are somewhat practical. But you have to use the appropriate Leica lens.
There are zounds of other little close-up gadgets for flat copy work.
hen there's the Focaslide that turns the camera into a strange view camera, and then the Visoflex, which makes the camera into an ungainly SLR. Both are Germanic over-engineering at it's most obtuse, and require a sea of hard-to-find adapters that are unique to some particular lens.
Close-up just isn't what LTM cameras are about, get any Nikon SLR and the excellent 55mm Micro-Nikkor for macro work!

I've had IIIfs in the past, and have still have a 70 year old Leica LTM camera. They are fun to use... but, if the only reason you have to get a Leica LTM is that 'you can't afford an M', I would seriously look at a Canon P. It has the common LTM lens mount, nice big and bright finder, handles like an M, quality made, few problems (even a wrinkled foil shutter curtain still works fine), a beautiful classic camera and you can find one for a few hundred dollars.

Humm..
I notice that early FSU Zorki and Fed shutter have a similar construction of shutter mechanism that of Leica III. I am curious to know whether it is possible to move the shutter curtain from a FSU camera to Leica.
