Hello all,

I have just bought a W67 Plaubel Makina and I think it needs a vertical rangefinder adjustment. Infinity is short and close focus is closer than the 0.8m indicated on the focusing wheel.

I've run a couple of rolls through it and the focus point appears to fall behind the subject. It's pretty dark and gloomy here in the UK so I haven't been able to get out much with the camera so tests are not conclusive.

My question is can anyone help me access the rangefinder adjusters. I know they're under the cold shoe but how do I get under there?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Ben

Hi Ben

I can't answer your question, but I wanted to let you know that you can still get the camera serviced by Plaubel in Germany. I've just payed €222 for a CLA and new light seals, the camera should be back to the UK next week. From what I've read online they come back working like new.

This could be an option for you?

Thanks for your reply. I hope yours does indeed come back like new and that's really not a bad price for a service of one of these complex cameras.

I think my camera in general is pretty sorted, but it has travelled quite a long way to get to me so the rangefinder drifting slightly could be expected. I have adjusted the vertical alignment on a Leica with success previously so I thought I may as well have a bash at this one before I seek external help.

Keep us informed on how the service goes as I'd be interested to hear for future reference.

Thanks,
Ben

The rangefinder adjustments screws are accessed under a thin plate on the flash shoe. It's hard to see how it is removed initially then when you figure it out it's a piece of cake.
