Raid,

Your best photos, as much as I've seen the rest. You could work a bit on the tones of some of them, esp. the colour ones that were made in "available darkness", some contrast increase would make them better in my oppinion... (i guess this is valid only for the scanned versions), but the subject and the composition in these photos is really excellent.

Thanks, Pherdinand. Some photos were taken in near darkness, and the low contrast is an issue there. In one photo [cancan] I tried scanning the slide in greyscale and then using curves to introduce some contrast and then I used coloring to add a sepia tone.

These images were taken on grainy (and low contrast) Scotch 1000 slide film. I tried to increase contrast during scans. I may have to try again to do better.

I find the color photos more interesting than the b&w ones -- the b&w look more like snapshot memories, while the colors ones have a more third person perspective which draw me in more. I believe this is mainly due to the tighter compositions.

Jano: After reading your comment, I went back and scanned a slide in color [cancan] after I had it is grey scale. I just uploaded another 25 images or so to the New Orleans folder.

Took a long look at these wonderful photos and decided I like the B&W's taken with the M3 quite a lot, they are all great. The color photos especially the one of the woman looking out her window is again wonderful. Some of the color pictures are not to my liking due to the mirky coloring of the Scotch 1000 film, perhaps inherent in that film, not familiar with it at all. Of course, under those circumstances, very low light, strong light sources you did a marvelous job.

Tony: Thanks for your support. I took most of the color photos at a time when no good fast film was available. I also wanted that dirty mirky grainy look with the Scotch film. At that time, there was no PS to adjustyour final results, and it was necessary to prepare beforehand how to get an image just the way you wanted. I once had an article on photography in available light published in Shutterbug magazine. It had some of these photos included.

By the way, the photo of the "woman" looking out of the window is of a mannequin in a store.

Sepia toned

I have tried removing the colors from some slides. I don't know if they look better in original color or in sepia.
