Reasons:
1. It's just my personal taste that I prefer photos with people in them.

2. Clear message of the photo. Not much distraction in the background. Again, my personal taste is towards photo with clean background either blurred or minimum objects included.

Background to me is just as important as the main subject. Can't separate them to make a good photo.

Good luck on making up your mind from so many inputs from other users too. :)

I missed the fact you requested for 5 nominees. The other three on top of the two I mentioned above would be: Casualty of War, Mosque and Hill Tribe Girl.

I love, as you know, Mekong Canal and Nurse tube feeding patient.

Oh - and bathroom self portrait ofcourse...I'd love to read your text blurb about this one in the book.... ;-)

Well Peter you can only get two in the book! My two favorites are the Mekong fishing boat and the Mekong jetty. :)
 
I haven't seen all of the shots (I'm at work!) but I particularly like "Lonelyness".
