I shot a couple of xray negs on a projection petzval I snagged for cheap, to see it covered 4x5. It doesn't.

Thin Air, Bright Sun
Arista ortho litho film, exposed in a Speed Graphic. Scan of contact print. Crafty-looking border applied with black paper mask while contact printing. To tame the excess contrast of this film, I use soft lighting, over-expose (ISO 3 instead of 6) and a more dilute development.

I managed to figure out how to cram the view camera, lenses, film holders, tripod, dark cloth, loupe, spotmeter, cable release and sanity pills into my Crumpler Sinking Barge and marched out. "I might be some time" I said to the cats, who shrugged their shoulders and serenely continued evincing supreme unconcern. On the other side of the village is an old wharf where schooners were once built, but the only thing launched there now is the odd kayak in the summer. It's mostly used for picnics and the important business of keeping mosquitos and blackflies well fed. It was -10ºC and the wind was gusting around 70km/hr, so it was all rather bracing.

How are you liking the Chamonix? I am completely new to large format and am seriously thinking about ordering one.
I was also looking at some monorail cameras but I want something versatile.

I'm in love! It doesn't have quite all the movements of a monorail, but is very portable. Some of the movements use the same lock, so for example if you want to shift the front standard sideways, you have to be careful not to introduce some swing as both are controlled by the T-shaped screw below the lens. This is said to have been done to save weight. Otherwise it has been a delight to use. The build quality, finish and rigidity are excellent. I was expecting a wait, but two weeks after e-mailing Hugo it was here, along with a couple of their cute wooden film holders (it happily takes old black plastic ones, but, you know—wood!) and a pair of lens boards.
