In my quest to learn more about films, I tried Plus-X pushed to 500 ISO, souped in Tmax Developer (1+4) and developed in room temperature water of 30.5C for 5mins.

The images are more fine-grained than my Tri-X pictures. Shadow details seem to be lesser due to the push, but perfectly acceptable. Despite a moderate agitation, the highlights did not blow.

As for sharpness, I can't really comment, as I am still learning.

For the pix, all except the first have been "curve" adjusted. Scanner used is the Epson V600 at 2400 dpi.

The first 2 were taken with the Canon 50mm 1.5f. The last was taken with a hazy and scratchy Summitar.

All of them were shot open wide at 1.5 ~ 2f and 1/30s

Yes, as far as I can see from the small size, the tonality (picture of the boy) is looking good! Keep up the experiments 🙂

As your scenes' light was soft and the contrast low, the push made sense to produce nice contrast negatives: no real shadow loss because there were no shadows... With a harsh light / shadows scene (direct sun), there'd be higher contrast, but a two stop push works even if it's a limit for good wet printing... In your case the push was a better solution than normal processing.

Cheers,

Juan
