I shoot a couple of 1000 feet of the 5231. Really liked it - and then Kodak stopped making it! I mainly used it with home-made Beutler developer (1:10 for 7 min), but also with D76 1:1 for 6-7 min. rated at around 100 iso. The Beutler gave very sharp negatives, great detail in both shadows and highlights. The D76 is slightly "softer" in rendition - but works well. Never liked it in Rodinal.
Check on our Flickr under the tag "EK 5231" - there should be plenty of samples with different developers. I switched to ORWO UN 54 once I used up my last of the Plus X. Good, but not as distinct as the EK 5231.

Cheers I'll give it a shot, I've got about 1200 feet of the stuff so should really use it!

I still have 400 feet of it in my freezer. I so far have only tried it in D-76, and it was contrastier than Eastman 5222 Double-X.
There are a few older shots taken with it on my Flikr page. I really like 5231.

I wish like Dorothy clicking her heels together, that I could find a few cans of 5231. I got into loading my own canisters right as it was discontinued.

Here's some 5231 I found for sale on Ebay (Not affiliated with the seller in any way). Looks like a Cinematographer, he has a -nice- Arriflex 16BL for sale as well.

You can get about 80 36 exposure rolls from a roll of 400' film stock.
This weekend, I am going into my basement darkroom, and spooling up a 100' daylight load of 5231, to go in one of my Watson Bulk Loaders. I use old Kodak black 100' film spools, that came with rolls of Kodak 100' rolls of Tri-X Bulk Film.

This thread has been dead for almost a year, I know.
But, man ide love to shoot some 5231 or 5222
These films are like ghosts now, where are they hiding?
The only hopeful, is a gentlemen loading 24/36exp rolls on eBay for well over 8$ a pop!
Not exactly where you'll find me chomping at the bit. I guess I'll keep shooting Trix for that price.

Once I did run out of the EK 5231 (+x) I started using Orwo's UN f4 instead. Might not have the extreme long tonality of the 5231 - but not too far off. I tried it in various developer and the D76/D96 works very well with it - and at the moment I am on Pyrocat HD "kick" and it gives nice long tones - though a bit edgier grain. I still have 1200 ft frozen - but the weather is abysmal, so at the moment I am shooting Fomopan 400/Legacy 400 - again in the Pyrocat HD.
Orwo sells the UN 54 both in 400 ft cans and in 100 ft cans. They have a website with availability "orwona' or something like that. Easy to deal with and prompt shipping too.
It will probably take you a can of 100ft to dial in your preference as to developer and speed ratings - but worth the effort.

Tom, I prefer D76 when I can. Glad to know the ORWO is still available. At what speed/s do you find to be appropriate for the Orwo? I'm going to try and hunt down some short ends this weekend at a local swap, we'll see if that leads anywhere.
Cleaning out my cabinet of Dektol and D76 to do a raincheck, I noticed I have a few (what I assume to be samples) pouches of Kodak Technidol, no instructions for mixing. Any advice Tom?
