Hi all,

A couple of quick questions - and I really mean I need a quick answer.

I have a second chance offer on a decently-priced Plustec 7200i.

Q1) I understand that the hardware has not changed between this and the current 8200i - is this correct?

I have been using a Canon 8800f with the film flat on the glass and a glass cover slide: despite not being ANR it has only thrown Newton rings with one film type.

I had decided I was happy enough with it when I lost the auction (obviously I thought I wasn't exactly happy enough when bidding - but then blood does rush to the head sometimes.)

Q2) Will I notice an improvement going to the 7200i from the Canon 8800f?

From what I have read, the actual resolution of the 7200i depends on having the focus right, but with modern software could be 3500-4000 DPI actual, while the 8800f is reported to be less than 2000 DPI despite its 4800 DPI optical resolution. But that is based on using the included film carriers, which it seems are not as good as just dropping the film right on the glass. And certainly they still allow the film to curl, which is whay I started going direct on the glass.

Both have IR image cleaning. The Canon can batch scan, so probably faster at lower resolutions.

Thanks for the hasty responses :)
