A quick MayDay here from someone who has just bought a used Plusteck 7200i, and has Mavericks on his desktop. What do I do to get it all running.
Part of the problem is that the bundled software is way out of date, it is V6.5. It has also been registered, so a simple update is not happening right now.
I've written to LaserSoft Imaging and will see what they say, but thought I'd ask the knowledge base here as well. A search pulled up nothing, but I can't be the only one who has come across this.
Any help appreciated.

"Maverick on his desktop" means Apple, doesn't it? AFAIK there is no support from Plustek/Lasersoft for the 7200i on OS X. Your best bet is Vuescan.

Even if it was possible to run the 7200 if the Silverfast software has been registered that may still cause a problem because it is an integral part of installing the Plustek drivers. After installing it you can ignore it and run Vuescan, even un-install Silverfast, but you can't download the drivers without Silverfast.

But there is no Silverfast OS X software for this scanner 'cause there are no drivers.
And you can download Windowsdrivers from the Plustek website, but no OS X drivers.

With vuescan you don't need t download any drivers I suppose.

A bit of an update, I've all but given up.
It does work, with the bundled SilverFast software, but only on a borrowed Windows machine. I am all Mac, so it isn't going to work for me.
SilverFast, and Vuescan work on a Mac, but there are no 7200i drivers for Mac, so it isn't going to happen for me.
An expensive lesson on my behalf.
Thanks for all your help team.

This is exactly what I did with Mavericks... and it works. I did removed Silverfaast (never opened it!0 with no consequence.
The last time I checked VueScan did not provide drivers for Plustek scanners.

If you need to use the scanner, couldn't you use a windows instance with virtualbox and then edit as usual on the mac after scanning?

I can confirm that briefly installing silverfast to use the drivers works, but you may in fact need a newer version of silverfast to do so. I am using a plustek 8200 with Vuescan and Mavericks, and I have no problem. I do recall that my plustek scanner came with a newer version of Silverfast, version 8 or higher if I recall correctly. Maybe worth tracking down a newer version?

Thanks to all that assisted here. A great forum for help like this.
In the end it got too difficult, I simply sold it off to a Windows user, and will go to "Plan B".

Other Mac owners may be interested to learn the most recent versions of VueScan (9.4.53) and Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) operate the Plustek scanner after an upgrade from Mavericks.
Of course the Silverfast drivers had been installed with Mavericks as described above.
