Well-known
Back in 1997 , i bought , at the UK airport on the way to Toronto, what was essentially going to be a point and shoot rather than the heavy 7000i-
A cheap and cheerful Minolta 404si in unfortunate silver .
It was great , I was going through some crazy stuff at the time and escaped on the bus to various arty places and a cafe and shot some great reversal .
It was no hardship as I could switch to manual whenever I wished to .
In 2011 , i was given a Sony A290 , to use Minolta lenses and at ISO 100 ,was pleased to find similar colours and sharpness with that silver 35-80 - perfectly stretched to 52-120 ,plus an illusive familiarity and well being ... ?
Ok, I had actually dropped from ISO 200 in 1997 , but I am not concerned , 200 is possible on the a290 , but not so advisable LOL.
I have just compared the cameras side by side and they are virtually identical given a more bulky pentaprism on the A290 . They also weigh and handle in a similar manner .
I guess both these cameras were the most basic in their day , yet I had not recognised how much the experience of a camera helping me out during a dark time , or that my hands and eyes would combine in similar and rare harmony several years later .
So, the perfect camera may be the imperfect camera !!
