Here's a tip which I use, and may be of interest to some.
Sometimes you want to try the effect of a polarising filter with a rangefinder camera but wonder how to find the optimum rotation setting. using say, a J8 or Summicron, get a polariser which is much bigger, 55 or 62 or even 72, hold it against the front of the lens, but in an off-centre position, so that you can look through the viewfinder and see through part of the filter at the same time. Then rotate the filter for max effect and take the shot. - A bit clumsy, but it's ok for just the odd situation where a polariser really helps.
