Polaroid 600se/Mamiya Press 127mm lens assembly instructions please?

Hey all,

I was happily shooting with my 600se on Friday and found the focusing collar was feeling a little loose. I resolved to look into it after I finished that pack of film.

Unfortunately, I didn't get that far, as the 127mm lens came apart in my hands. The focusing collar's looseness got bad enough that it didn't keep the lens together.

Now I need to reassemble it. It's in 3 parts. I also need to figure out how to set the focusing collar so it won't move, the way it's supposed to be.

If anybody has a set of instructions, a scan for a user manual, or just some comments based on experience that'll help me get my 127 back together, I'd be very grateful. I very much appreciate it and thank you all in advance for your time and help.

I have rid myself of a lot of my Polaroid 600SE stuff and Mamiya Press stuff. I am somewhat puzzled by what problem you are having. I have a 127mm lens which is comprised of a front cell, in a shutter, and then a rear cell. The lens/shutter mount then has a retaining ring threaded on the back of the shutter mounting area.

However it sounds to me like you are having problems with the focus helical. I still have the front focus helical and mount from the early fixed lens 600 (which I don't think was called the SE). The focus helical has a lens plate on the front of the helical, through which the lens/shutter combo mount and the retaining ring holds it in place.

So from reading your post, I can't deduce whether you are having a problem with one of the cells, or the shutter mechanism, or the focusing helical.

Can you be a bit clearer on parts, or submit pictures? I may be able to help determine the problem.

My apologies for not having been clearer. The lens/shutter assembly is still totally together and working. What has happened is the focusing helicoids have come apart, thanks to a loose focusing ring which apparently has the little tab that stops the lens from focusing "out" too far. I need instructions on how to reassemble the focusing helicoids and how to remove, then reinstall and set the focusing ring.

I have purchased some NOS parts from him as late as 2-3 years ago, and I know from some Mam Press stuff I have sold that some of the buyers have been in contact with Tony for other parts and accessories in the last few months.

You may even find a page on his Mamiya and Polaroid stuff on the Kreta Reserve site.

He can completely rebuilt the cameras and lenses for these systems. I first found out about him from his advertizements in the old Rag Newspaper Shutterbug magazines. (at least 30 years ago)

My stuff would be of no use to you. My Pola 600 focus helical is the fixed model, unlike your bayonet lens system. The real PITA on most focus helicals is getting the right entry point on multi threaded helicals with regard to calibration of the helical to the range finder AND the distance scale.

Tony can probably do that blind folded.

I called him earlier and have decided that rather than even attempt the repair myself, I will send it to him. I'm not shy about fixing computers, cars, or even firearms, but cameras make me nervous.
