Quantity or quality ? (Hem, I think I'm gonna make some friends...) 😛

If Jorge were to limit gallery postings to some # per day, what do you think would be reasonable?

It's hard to pick a number... But as someone who's not yet posted anything in the gallery, but has recently bought a scanner and is about to start going through his negs, it would be nice if there was an initial allowance of maybe 20 to get an opening selection up.

On the other hand I suppose it would be fun chosing two or three a day and letting them trickle out...

I was one of these who uploaded 14 pictures today ..... not having a clue.
I thought i put a gallery up because i had none sofar........ I did not realise the galleries section was also a posting board to reply and get replies to the uploaded pictures!
So i deleted 10 of those images again........ sorry !

Honestly, When I am in front of my 36 B/W or color images from my last roll, how many pictures do I think are reasonnably good to show ? For my case, one, perhaps two... As I have no film scanner, just a flatbed which accepts my RC and FB prints, and as I shoot 4 to 6 rolls per week, (2/3 of 35mm and 1/3 of 127 or 120 film) , and I'm doing just one printing session in a week, let's say one per day seems sufficient for me !

yeah ok, we can do the math and say 4 per day is 28 per week, but i know many here who upload only once or twice in a month. Like myself. Or take Remy, as example, when he comes back from Mongolia with a bucket load of film, he certainly has more than a few interesting images to upload, all of a sudden.

Er, why? Am I missing something here?

Is there something that prevents you from uploading any time you like instead of "once or twice a month"? This makes no sense to me? 😕

Tom

I understand Pherdinand's concern - Remy (a.k.a. RML) is a case that comes to mind immediately....
However, with recent growth in numbers and participants in gallery, I vote for reduction - i.e. to have a max. number of photos per day. We can't make exceptions - otherwise others would be rightly pi**ed off if someone has the right to post 30 images at once, and the others are allowed only 3... 🙁

I'd vote for 3 per day - not more!

Perhaps Jorge could also eliminate the "Last comments" photos, and leave only comments as text, with the link to the photo in the gallery? That would save some space, and we could increase the number of "Last additions" to 20, instead of 15, as it is now...?

In any case, I'm for imposing a limit to the daily uploads, since some members have been pushing this too far lately... It makes it difficult to see what's new.

I think the gallery should be reserved for "best work" one can produce, so we should all exercise some self-restraint.

Just my opinion, anyway... FWIW

I voted for 2 per day in order to encourage editing.

I'd support a max number of photos allowed in an individual gallery too, say 100. If you want to post more, delete some older/weaker photos first.

I voted 2 per day. The number of people posting is growing and we need some limits. A limit on the number of photos a gallery can hold would also be good. There also should be a standard file size in the order of 640 on the longest side and under say 200 KB. As far as posting your best goes, I was disappointed to see some comments on that, to my way of thinking they implied someones best is not good enough. Not all of us are experts/perfect and do the best we can.

It depends how you view the gallery:

If the gall here is for looking for critique/illustrating a point/whatever, then a very small number per day (I picked 1 up at the top there) would be plenty sufficient.

If, however, it's the place where you show all your photos to the world, that's different. (There's plenty of alternatives for that, and many are superior - while I like coppermine, it's still pretty rough when compared to Flickr, or even the quick, clean and basic interface of somewhere like pgallery. How many gallery sites does the web/one photographer need? I've got pics on three or four now, plus my own website. /me shrugs.)

I'm curious as to what the original intended use of the gallery was?

I picked 6, in my opinion a useful number, if i get my filmscanner, so i can scan one strip of 6, maybe edit them. And upload them.

But 6 might be to much, because 6 good photos on 6 photos, well... I'm not likely to encounter that 😉 🙁

No vote from me - it should be a monthly limit instead - I am still scanning and when that iss done I would like to upload some series of shots while I will probably not upload anything in the meanwhile. So please no daily limits

I voted for 3, but 2 would also be OK with me. Ray has a good point about themes, but everything in a theme does not have to be posted, just enough to pique our interest. There are plenty of online albums where large numbers of photos can be posted, photo.net, etc. so RFF can be a place to post 2-3 of the best and then include the url for a more extensive album/collection.

BTW, J Borger (Han), I hope you don't take this personally. Thanks for your sensitivity - I'm off now to look at the pics in your album.

I picked "more than 6" but I too would find a monthly limit more suitable. As is said before, I happen to upload in bursts; often months nothing and then all of a sudden a bunch at once. I leave these up for as long as it takes until I have new batch.

Oh, for the time being no photos from Mongolia. My last trip to Mongolia I mostly shot digital (What?!). My next batch might be in June when I'm back from a family reunion in Belgium though I could be shooting digital there as well. 😛

I like the idea of only one thumbnail appearing and taking the viewer to the uploader's gallery.

I voted for two per day, but I'd be OK with either two or three. I'd also be OK with a limit on the number of images per user. I think both of these restrictions would encourage me to be more selective about what I post, refresh my gallery periodically, and also make it easier to see and enjoy everyone's photos.
