Poly Pan F iso 50 film

I've been using Polypan-F mostly in my Xpan.
This was shot on a bright day, but in ambiant lit shadowed area.
Xpan + 45mm f4 + Polypan-F @ 50asa in Rodinel (1 to 100 for an hour with no agitation)

I had recently (in my eyes) pleasing results with PolypanF@100 in Beutler 1+1+10; 11min; 20°C

Polypan F @ 50 iso. Developed in Rodinal 1:200 stand development for 120 min (one gentle "flip" at 60 min). Shot with a Leica R6 and Macro Elmar 100mm f4.0 on a truly rainy and miserable day - hence a good day for "table top" stuff.

Hello Tom. Nice detail and good contrast. 1:200 you say. How much Rodinal did you use? For a single 135 roll I've gone down to 3ml in 375ml (1:125) with no ill effects.

hi fellow RFFers,

a quick question. i tried PPF at iso 100 and developed with D76 in 1+1 dilution (aprox 16mins@20).
I overdeveloped but still found alot of missing shadows details and a general lack of tones.
I have the following options/developers:

* Rodinal
* HC110
* D76 (already mixed in a gallon) in either 1+1 or 1+3 dilution.

can you suggest which is a better dev for push +1 stop (short of migrating to Xtol).

here is an example, straight scan, captured with a Hexar AF.

Ilford Pan F / 50 in bulk rolls from FREESTYLE in California is $53.79 in 100ft rolls. I find that with Ilford Pan F....the amount of grain is attached to the developer and temp.

I personally perfer the Efke 50 but needless to say it is no longer in the market, it did come in rolls also. Efke did not seem to see the high values load up.

Do you work under artificial light?
I have the feeling (not tested) PPF is less sensitive in the longer waves.

I would like to make what should be a rewarding suggestion...Freestyle in Hollyweird, had Efke was having Efke put into 100ft rolls and branded as a private label film. Currently you can still buy what "They" list as Arista EDU Ultra 100 ISO BW in rolls of 100ft. Now I still use this film and just loaded a roll in my M5 and this is actually the EFKE 50 as it was represented to my by staff at Freestyle...it is described on the website as follows.

Several years ago, Freestyle sought to counter the trend of rising photo supply costs by introducing the Arista.EDU Ultra line of film and paper. In a time when industry heavyweights have exited the traditional photographic field, Arista.EDU Ultra provides students and educators a reliable supply of high quality and affordable photographic materials.

All Arista.EDU Ultra films are all-purpose emulsions featuring fine-grain, full tonal range, excellent resolution and wide exposure latitude.

SO...I normally rate the 100 film at 50 and the results are very good, fine grain and works with almost any developer. The cost per 100ft roll is $33.99

Worth considering.

I thought it was fomapan? Both are/were made in Croatia, in case that is inviting confusion. The developing times for Foma 100 and the Arista 100 are the same.

Also for those experiencing halation, you may have better luck in a camera with a ribbed or dimple pressure plate to reduce light bouncing back through the film. I kind of wonder what it'd look like in a camera with chrome pressure plate.

Eric, sorry about the delay in answering your question. I use 7.5 ml of Rodinal in 1500 ml of water. Pour it in and shake. rattle and roll for the first 60 sec and tap the tank to remove airbubbles. Afer that I usually slip a DVD in the player - watch the first 60 min, pause, and go up and give the can a gentle twist and turn, put it back down, go back to the movie until the next 60 min. are up. Fix as usual and let it dry. It does curl with a vengeance - so when it is dry, I usually cut it and put in file pages and a couple of heavy books on it overnight.

Efke was made in Croatia. Fomapan is made in the Czech republic, in Hradec Kralove about 100km East of Prague. They also make a large range of papers, with some interesting surfaces and qualities - well worth a look for European photographers.

hi,

just an update on my attempts to use ppf at iso 100.
i finally developed several rolls in hc110 at 1+100 dilution
for 45mins@30C, (roughly 90mins at 20C).

the negatives are more bearable now. but this film doesn't
like low contrast scenes indoors, in my opinion.

Polypan F @ 50 iso. Developed in Td 201 split developer. A bit over exposed (highlights slightly fried).
M6 TTL and Leica Elmar 50mm f2.8 v II.
The film attracts dust with a vengeance - could be used as a vacuum cleaner!

i think i finally nailed the development time for polypan f pushed to iso 100.

i tested with 3 developers, hc110, rodinal stand and d76. A

As I develop mainly at room temp here in Asia, at around 30C, the time taken
is usually halved.

This usually creates huge grains, but since PPF is fine grained, the effect is
somewhat like FP4+, fine but still noticeable grains.

I noticed that perhaps due to the lack of the anti-halation effect,
PPF gives a shimmering effect to skin tones especially if there are
sufficient light on the skin.

The pictures below were developed in D76 in 1+1 dilution for 10mins@30c (or 20mins@20C)

with a lower contrast lens like the Summarit,
the effect is quite interesting as well.

i did a bit more experimentation with pushing PPF to 100 and 200.

here are some "pushed" images, all at iso 100 except the 2nd picture.

raytoei, awesome photos of fast disappearing street life in Singapore. I really like the first two, durian seller and the old man in the bird shop.
