Polymax T vs Ilford Multigrade

Hi guys,

I've only printed using Kodak's Polymax T developer before (on FB Ilford VC paper). However the darkroom I will start using here in Montreal stocks Ilford chemistry only. It's been hard to locate Polymax T in the city, I need to have it shipped from another state.

In any case, would there be any difference between using those 2 developers, are there any advantages to using either of them?

Hi ! I would not worry. Polymax and multigrade give almost identical results.
I prefer dektol do, but this is less practical chemistry if You not in your own darkroom. Anyway Polymax T is still available from Henry's in Ontario and store closest to You will be in Orleans, close to Ottawa, some 120 kliks from Montreal. Call them, maybe they will ship, or maybe is worth it to drive there.

I will give Ilford a try then as they give it to you for free. Polymax T is kind of expensive anyway.

the liquid version of Dektol is polymax developer.

Ilford MG dev is a great all rounder. Look no further.

Polymax T is about half the price of Ilford multigrade. At Henry's price is $9.99 for a quart. Multigrade is $10.99 for 500ml. But then again all chemistry from Ilford double the Kodak price. I am not sure if polymax to fluid dektol. However, liker dektol it is a neutral tone developer. Does not matter, all of them work very well.
