has anyone used Camera Solutions for Leica repair. I just bought an M6 and it needs the vertical RF adjusted. They have the tool. BUT, I was wondering about an overhaul/service/CLA. Would they do a good job? I just think the camera nees some stuff done to it to get it up to my specs. There may be nothing wrong with it, I just want it to be the best it can for me as the new user (and new to Leica)
Thanks

Wow sorry for some reason I didn't notice that Camera Solutions was a title of a shop....I have never used them...and still say go for advanced...

1st follow-up

1st follow-up

Well, Camera Solutions would do the work with less wait time but more $. Advance Camera repair is charging me less, yet with a longer turn around time. Both shops seemed confident, yet Advance Camera acted like they would do more for me - not so "by the book".

I will post a 2nd follow up in 2.5 weeks when I get the camera back to me.

Tried Both

Tried Both

I've tried both of them.

It's a long story but I'll spare the details and cut to the chase, wnated to see what both could do

Camera Solutions: Hasselblad Zeiss 150mm f/4.0 lens sent in for repair - sticking on lower speeds

Total: $ 260.00 WOW!!!

Advanced Camrea Repair: Nikon 35-70mm 2.8 Push/Pull dettached element repaired. (Lens was not a good performer IMO).

Total: $170.00

Both were repaired within a weeks time and they seem well lubricated and ready to be put to work but before I could use them, someone broke into my home and stole all my gear. I mean everything including an electric shaver, I mean honestly what moron would steal a used electric shaver!!

Since this Portland Shops thread has been brought back to life may I ask where one would purchase (or play with) an M8 in Portland? My employer is based nearby and if I ever do get one Oregon would be the place. You guys know why.

The only place I've seen Leica M's is at Pro Photo Supplies, 19th and Marshall.

They are quite willing to let you fondle an M8 at ProPhoto Supply. I was down there doing the same to an M7 on Saturday.

Chad,

ProPhoto is a Leica dealer? That's news to me. When did that happen?

I don't know when this came to be or if they even are a full blown Leica dealer. The M7 that I looked at was on consignment (asking $1700). However, the M8 was new. I didn't ask about how many they had or prices. They also have had some Leica literature on the counter which apparantly got snapped up because I didn't notice it on Sat. I didn't see any Leica lenses for sale.

Jay, on all accounts, this was exactly my experience.

Leica Dealer

Leica Dealer

Let me think it was this new year at least before Feb. 2007. The have a M8 and 75mm Lux. and handful of the Point & Shoots on hand.

They're great group of guys there, I buy all my stuff from them.

I've used Camera Solutions a few times and my experiences have been excellent. They managed also shipping my Mamiya 645AFD back to Hasselblad for a new shutter, replacing a dented rewind lever for my M6, serviced a collection of Mamiya 645 AF lenses and some sundry other repairs. A little pricey but the work was good.

Another repair dealer is Knight Photo in Vancouver - they will do pretty much any camera repair you need too and they are the trusted repair partner for a couple of the other Portland photo stores.

As regards ProPhoto Supply and Leica, I bought my M8 there and they were always pretty much a sleeper as far as Leica is concerned. The official Leica dealer is Shutterbug - the store on Broadway has some cameras but pretty light stock. I spend my money at ProPhoto Supply since most of the knowledgeable camera staff from Shutterbug, CameraWorld etc all work there now anyways.
