Portrait lenses ... 75mm and longer. Post your examples.

I really like the 75mm equivalent focal length of my DP3M for portraits and would like something thereabouts for my 240.

Without venturing into 75mm Summilux territory (desirable but expensive) what offers ... can some kind folks post some examples with the various options?

It has occured to me that with the 240 I can but an EVF on it and use an adapter for my 85mm f2 Zuiko ... that lens does have a fairly beaten up front element though.

Just as an FYI.

It looks like the Leica evf for the m240 maybe a rebranded Olympus vf2. Google "Leica m240 Olympus evf".

True I think ... and half the cost of the Leica one. I spotted an Oly EVF on Amazon the other day for around $250.00 AUD and according to the listing it's been bought by people who also bought the M. 🙂

My thoughts exactly Gary ... and I suspect my Zuiko 50mm f1.2 would be very interesting on the Leica.

At last count I think I had around fifteen Zuikos! 😱 😀

Just went to Amazon and ordered the VF2 viewfinder and an M to OM Zuiko adapter.

As you may know Keith, the best portrait FL is actually 50mm. The percentage of time I use longer lenses for portraits is small. Second important observation has been made above: with sensor focusing you can use about any lens on an adapter. In case you bought the 75 lux, it would actually be easier to focus it that way in any case.
From my experience, exceptional portrait lenses are: C Sonnar 50, almost any Leica 50mm lens, Zuiko 55/1.2, Pentax 50/1.4, 55/1.8 and 58/2, Helios 44-2, Biotar 58/2, Minolta Rokkor 58/1.2, Nikkor 58/1.4 S, Macro Elmarit 60/2.8, Heliar 75/2.5,Biotar 75/1.5, Summilux 75 and 80, Pentax 85/2 Sonnar 85/2.8 and Planar 85/1.4, Summicron (M and R ) 90 pre asph ( great ), Helios 40-2 (great), Jupiter 9, your Zuiko 85/2, and to end this, Nikkor 105 of any kind, particularly the 105/2 DC. So this spans cost wise between 25 USD (Helios 44) and 2500 USD or more (Summilux 75).

fwiw, i love 75mm-135mm, have used many, and found for portraits the biotar 75/1.5 was extraordinary and reasonably priced. just heavy--i had the thick model--and thats why i sold it. i personally have not seen lens results that could equal it. i do like the cv75/1.8 and do not think it can be equaled for money/size vs result.

When I use it though, the results are excellent, maybe I should just use it more often.😉

I've never bonded with the 75mm focal length. It just isn't that different from 50 to work as a kit for me, and 50 is my go to focal length. I like 90mm for the additional reach, although I don't use it that much.

One I liked was the Zeiss Opton f2/85mm..

Perfect at wide open to F4 for Potraits. I used an Amedeo adapter with a Contax RF copy.
There are LTM copies out there from Zeiss Jena.
There was something about that Opton time that was special and I think worth the pursuit.

In the US Many GI's came home with Zeiss Camera sets.
The 2/85mm was a tough lens to use on the Contax ii and iii rangefinders.
One had to view focus through the VF and then compose through a finder. At F2 it was hard to hit focus and I think folks thought the lens soft.
As a result many of the lens sat in drawers and are now in pristine condition.
They are gorgeous lenses for the Digital Leica RF's and film alike.
The Nikkor f2/85 LTM has a similar signature and is less expensive as it's more abundant. The Zeiss is special though and worth pursuing.

I used mine on the RD1 and M8 and film as when I owned it he M9 was not available.
Had to sell during a dark period.
