Intriguing photo. I suppose at the Rietveld Academy. Do you know how he did later in life? Cheers, OtLgelatin silver print (summicron 50mm f2 (rigid)) leica m3

He was not a student of the Rietveld academy, but perhaps a model or a mannequin from the fashion department. I took this photo behind the scenes during a fashion show in the context of a final exam or something like that. In any case, I was no longer a student of the Rietveld Academy; I was then trying to be admitted to the Rijksakademie. By the way, I succeeded. Not long after that, the Rijksacademie was disbanded.Intriguing photo. I suppose at the Rietveld Academy. Do you know how he did later in life? Cheers, OtL

Have you never heard of the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten? The academy was an initiative of Joseph Alberdingk Thijm, an art historian (professor of Art History) from the 19th century. He was the father of the well-known author Lodewijk van Deyssel. The Academy of Visual Arts was founded in the period when the Rijksmuseum was built. The imposing building is still there and is located on the Stadhouderskade, close to the Rijksmuseum. In 1876 Thijm became professor of aesthetics and art history there through the involvement of De Stuers. He was also the academy's first director. As far as I know, the Rijksacademie has been discontinued, the institute as such no longer exists.Interesting. I've never heard of the Rijksacademie. What was it supposed to be?
In the 1930s, there was a lack of living and working space for the professors at the Rijksacademie. A complex of studio homes for sculptors and painters was then built in the Rivierenbuurt, where Jan Wolkers, among others, lived. I live there myself since 1981. Jan Wolkers was a student of the Rijksacademie in the 1950's.
Erik.

Thank you Mike! Shooting in those spaces with the large exterior windows was a bit of a torture test for the early 35mm Summilux, particularly shot wide open or almost wide open as it was here. It has a natural tendency to render a little low in contrast and strong backlight can wash things out such as facial details in shadow or partial shadow.I'm really impressed with this one (as well as all your others) please keep posting... your photos are a real treat!

The most difficult photo was actually the color one of the two sisters posted on the previous page. Shooting wide open I had to get all of their eyes in the same plane so they'd all be in focus, while also finding light that was flattering for both faces, waiting for them both to have interesting expressions and finally trying to orient them in the room so the background worked with the foreground.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I've been enjoying your photos with the new Voigtlander lenses!
