Portraits

What I didn’t understand since this is a rangefinder forum why folks post stuff clearly not shot with a rangefinder. I mean, why call it the rangefinder forum then…just my 2 nitpicking cents.
Because we like to, and rff is a broad church. There is a bias towards film and towards rangefinders, and that I like, but there's discussion about all sorts of cameras and imaging media, which I also like. That's why this is such a great place.

Can't really know sweet without knowing sour.

At least a few of us think a thing is best appreciated in the context of other things. Comparisons and contrasts, at least to me, make discovering something much more interesting.

I'd find a forum solely populated with photos from only one type of camera -- be it rangefinder or DSLR or whatever -- not as interesting as it could be with some nice variety.

The forum originally was specifically for rangefinder cameras. There was a companion forum for SLRs. The two merged and broadened out to welcome virtually any camera, while rangefinder cameras get extra affection 😉

Broad indeed. Some of us came up through the view/field camera route and found rangefinders a more portable solution. HCB's "sketchbook," if you will. SLRs displaced that in some respects except where some grace and delicacy was required. I'm all digital now but shot film from the mid-sixties. Mirrorless (Canon for me...) appears to be the future and no matter what job I'm on I still have a Fuji X100F or two in the bag or hanging off the shoulder. It's not a rangefinder in the traditional sense, but it retains much of the aesthetic and practical advantages of one.

I suspect that I'm not the only member that still owns a few M bodies that haven't seen use for at least a decade or more.

Consider it one of the stations of the cross for the congregation gathered here.

I enlisted in RFF in 2007 it seems. I had been a lurker for some time prior but I dove in that year. Interestingly enough (or maybe not...whatever) 2008 was when I sold my Leicas. I haven't used a rangefinder since then. But I kinda found a home here after trying to fit in several other places and never being made comfortable enough to slip off my shoes. RFF is the kind of place I can just sit back and wiggle my toes. Oh...and shoot whatever camera I like.
