I just shot a roll of B/W with my M6, but on examining the pics I found that two frames have a peculiar stripe on the upper side of the picture. Does this indicate a possible shutter problem with my M6? Thanks! (the stripe in the vertical frame is on the right)

Hi - Take a look at this thread on LUF, it seems to be a light leak of some sort, the majority of the fram is overexposed and the "margin" is correctly exposed. The thread has several links to other very similar problems that I have found or posted.

my M6 does the same same but different. It overexposes a bar across the top of the frame (only) when shot at 1/1000th of a second.

everyone thank you for your comments!

functus, hi, I know one of those were exposed in f/2.8, 1/125. The other one could be 1/125 or 1/250.
danmitch, thanks for the link, really helpful!

Now it definitely looks like a light leak, only I'm not sure where it came from. I changed lenses often during the whole roll, and (coincidentally?) all the pictures that have this problem came from the same lenses (I found another two in my previous rolls where I didn't notice!). I'll try something and see if I can pinpoint the exact source of the light leak!

Having had this problem with both my M6`s and an M3, I can tell you the light shield around the shutter is leaking. It is an inexpensive but pro repair. WAG is $100.

Leica has a new mylar shield that will not go bad and you will be able to see the very edges after instalation.
