UPDATE: I miss my Elmar, so over the weekend I bought an inexpensive Rolleiflex MX-EVS that features a 3.5 Tessar lens.

My favorite E,mar-M image thus far:

Look a the thread, NYC pics. All of the shots there were taken with the 50mm Elmar-M (latest.)

I've added these to my NYC shots to my pBase gallery. All taken with the 50mm Elmar-M.
See the whole series at http://www.pbase.com/hlockwood/nyc_june_2010&page=all

But, frankly, I'm dubious about judging any lens based on what we see on our screen here. The posted image is going to depend heavily on post processing and what film was used. All the shots in my pbase NYC gallery were taken with XP2; how would the rendering appear if, instead, I had used Tri-X?
That said, judging from K7 prints, my final output, this is a great lens, one that stays on my M7 almost exclusively.

All b+w shots in my flickr profile are made with an Elmar-M 50mm, but i'm a beginner - don't expect those pictures to demonstrate the lens at its full potential:

I just bought a black 50mm f2.8 Elmar M yesterday. I can't wait to get it and post my first shots here in this post.

I bought one (Elmar M) quite recently and was well impressed with it, super sharp even wide open great ergonomics, just traded it for the 50mm summilux didn't need two fifties.

Maybe Leica discontinued it because it was too cheap, and therefore "the wrong sort of people" could afford one?
In reality, it's probably because the Summarit replaced it as the budget slowish 50; having two 50mm lenses at the same sort of price would have split the market and cost more in inventory* etc.
*that's if Leica actually has an inventory; they seem to be making everything to order at the moment!

Big fan of your pictures!
I've been wanting an Elmar-M. It's compactness is really appealing to me (the images that it can produce aren't too bad, either
