Yesterday, a mate and I took the DSLRs and big lenses to capture some kite surfing at Nobbys Beach Newcastle, Australia. It was about 3.00pm and a fair North easterly was blowing onshore, perfect for this sport.

Had the RD-1 over the shoulder as well and took some quick snaps inbetween the action. All with 40mm Nokton.

New to this forum, rangefinders, and the R-D1 (just bought it last week in Tokyo)! Really loving every moment of it!

A great exhibit of Capa's wartime photos @ ICP just ended on Sunday.

That exhibition would have been fantastic. Did you get to see it?

I have a book on all the great TIME photogs. Apparently he shot 4 rolls during the D-Day landings but a photo assistant ruined all but 11 shots. Talk about a career move...

Just waiting on an adapter to try out 2 new Russian lenses. A I61 L/D and Jup 8. Can't wait.

Saw it Saturday, 2nd to last day it was open. Fantastic.

One strange thing I have noticed with ICP is very small prints at both of the exhibits I specifically went to see (Capa and an HCB one).
I suppose its all in what prints are donated/lent to them.
This exhibit had a lot of prints in the 5"x7" size range.
The HCB exhbit had prints as small as 3"x5".

Certainly does make for MANY more prints to spend time observing...

Here's a couple of my friends kitty that i took last year when i first got the zeiss 50mm f/2. Having never used a rangefinder prior to last year, I find it very easy to use. I have been using my beloved R-D1 95% of the time since buying it. It's so much more fun to use than my dSLRs.

Both using the ZM 35/2.

The first was taken during a studio shoot in Fukuoka, Japan. Not my studio, I was just taking advantage of the setup 🙂 Flash would certainly have been appropriate though I quite like the soft lighting.

imho the dim lighting is what makes the image so special! awesome, magical shot. And such a great commentary on the paradoxical nature of Japanese society...
 
I got out for the first time yesterday to give the R-D1s a tryout. I didn't have much time to spend with it, but here is one shot. Taken with a CV Color-Skopar 35 and processed in Silkypix. SP gives me better colors than Lightroom.
