How does YOUR bag look with your gear IN the bag? A friend is trying to visualize what fits in which bags and while we have a generous resource of what bags folks use, she cannot find photos of bags with the gear inside.

So, can we post bags and gear for her?:)
 
Yeah, I would love to see that, too. Most bag makers either just show the outside of their bags, or empty interior shots. I'm always trying to visualize how my gear would fit into those bags. Let's see some full bags!
 
This is my Lowepro Exchange Messenger bag. Not the best padded, but you can cram a lot in there. The M7 sits on its' end, with a covered polystyrene block cut to fit under the lens. If I leave the spot meter out, the bag can take my M2 as well - but it all gets a tad heavy!

Well, there ya go! That is a pretty good looking solution as I could never tell just how big the bag was on the LowePro site! Thanks for posting!!!:D

I fit a bit into my Domke F-803. I love Domke's canvas bags, really well made, I have one that is a couple decades old and holds up great. I got this one for my birthday and couldn't be happier with it. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this bag it's about the size of a small laptop bag and when stuffed with all the things pictured it's 13" wide 10" high and about 5" eep at the thickest/deepest part. I don't usually carry all this stuff with me... but if I'm going away and don't want to pack too heavy, it's a nice option.

At about 11 lbs, I don't carry this much normally.. usually just the two Nikon RF mount bodies and maybe an MF folder, at most. But here's what's inside..

I would would no more buy a camera bag from the specs and photos than I would a dress suit.

I remain convinced the only way to properly buy a bag is to take the photo gear you want to carry into the shop, pack the bag, and carry it around the store. Then see how easy it is to retrieve / replace gear while it is on your shoulder. This is worthwhile to make sure you get the right bag for you even if it means paying full retail.

We all have different requirements for the same gear. Some are happy with a very structured packing / retrieval protocol. I need to be able to reach or reinsert everything in the bag with one hand without ever glancing down. (and I still usually refuse to actually carry the bag when shooting)

Actually, for my latest bag I did just that. My girlfriend and I went to one of the last camera stores in the Dallas/Ft Worth area that still sells film: Arlington Camera. They have a terrific selection of bags. Anyway, I thought we went there to mainly get a bag for her little digicam kit. However, she spotted the Think Tank Photo Sling-o-Matic 10, and wanted me to try it out. So I loaded the gear I had with me (a Zeiss Ikon with lens, and a Bessa R3a with lens), then walked around a bit, played with the terrific padding that bag comes with, tried the various positions for carrying and accessing the gear, and before I knew it, I was leaving the store with one (of course paying for it! ;) )

I haven't had a chance to really put it through a serious workout yet, and it's a bit too big for just afternoon walking around taking the occassional shot. But for trips, I think this is going to be sweet. The pouch on the side, meant for a small tripod, will work very nicely to carry my water bottle.

I've never used a sling before, so it'll be interesting to see how this works out, but I must say I had a good feeling about it in the store, and I have a good feeling about it now.
 
I have no idea what this style bag is called, but I picked up two from Ritz some 2 or 3 years ago, before the local stores closed.

This is a shot of one bag with a Kiev 4AM on top for size comparison. It has the f/1.8 lens mounted.

Below shows two pockets below the camera and 85mm lens. There I store a Vivitar 185 flash and a backup camera, a Welta Welti with more film.

Not shown are the side pockets. One has more film, the other a Gossen Luna Pro. It makes a pretty light and managable bag, with most everything needed.

FWIW, the same style bag with a Contax 167mt, Vivitar 28-70mm mounted, Contax 50mm f/1.4 beside the zoom, right lower pocket with a Vivitar 75-150mm zoom, and upper right pocket a Phoenix 18-28mm zoom. Not shown in the lower pockets are a Yashica dedicated flash and a Yashica FX-3 for backup. The front pocket has a Welta 6x6 and film.

OK, I have made a long post around here on this very bag, but here it comes. Messenger Super Deluxe from Courierware. It had some smaller modifications done upon my request (zipper over front pockets and slightly different inner pockets).

I have ordered this bag specifically for Mamiya 6. It is very light, well done and looks much cheaper that it was :) After using it for a few moths I can only say it was a good choice.

when I carry light. (1 camera, 2 lenses, film, note taking materials) I toss a Naneu Pro insert into a freebie bag I got for donating to the National Wildlife Federation.
