Here's my Marmaduke, who must be related to Chris' His Excellency as he also likes to eat, sleep and terrorize large dogs, and he's similarly huge :)

Cats are too smug to be photographed.

Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. I'm revolted by cat photographs generally. They,(the photo's) are way too common as well as smug... like self pics of the photog aiming the camera at the viewer. Ugh!

So, I propose we all contact our Congressional representatives and demand a new bill advocating for the removal of all cat photo's on the Net. They'll be sure to listen as they love legislating new bills. Also suggest making it a crime to shoot images of cats as well since it trivializes the serious nature of photography and influences our children to take ever more banal photography, thus weakening their artistic sensibilities, which if one thinks about it is the true foundation upon which our culture and civilization itself is predicated. Gulp! Horrifying really...

Here... This is an example of just the sort of smugness I think you may be referring to. And this photo even has plastic lawn furniture to lend to the gouache nature of cat photo's.

Personally, I've maybe seen two or three pictures with cats in that I actually thought were okay. On the whole though, I thoroughly dislike them as a subject. Especially when it's a picture taken with a Holga or a Noctilux.

Just to torture you, here is another Nocti-cat...

These are two male cats I knew in Santa Fe. The orange cat, Oliver, belonged to the friend I lived with. The white and black one lived in the neighborhood and was a frequent visitor to our house, where he and Oliver fought regularly. After one of the fights, Oliver went to the vet for stitches on his head, and NEUTERING. At the same time!

No one knew who owned the black and white cat. The old Spanish women in the neighborhood named him Hitler. Yeah, Hitler. Because he looks like the Nazi, with the black mustache! Only in New Mexico would that be acceptable :bang: The crazy thing is the cat answered to the name.

Oliver looks to be pretty good at defending his territory.

He did, except that the female cat (actually his sister) used to kick his ass all the time. Sometimes e was so scared of her that he wouldn't even walk past her. Other times he'd sleep next to her.

This is my friend's mom and the two cats. Oliver died last year, they don't know why. Found him dead in the back yard, curled up like he was sleeping. His sister is still around.
