Well, well... I remember "investigating" these disused buildings when I was about 14 years of age (late 1960s)! I'm surprised that they're still standing - I'd have thought that they would have been demolished to make way for some appalling shopping complex, or similar, by now.:(;)

Thanks for posting - that was a trip down memory lane!

Hi TBHV55

Yes they are still there, getting more and more derelict. New housing is going up all around this site, but I'm not sure what is planned for this building. Will be a shame if it just gets knocked down.

Good to hear that they're still there, but not so good (though hardly surprising) to hear that they're becoming more derelict.

Like you, I'm saddened by the prospect of their (almost-inevitable) demolition at some point. I very much doubt that you'll get much photographic joy from whatever replaces them, when the time comes... :(

Got a X100s last week and took it for a spin at the river. Very stealthy and better focus than X100s. Very sharp too.

Timmy-

Can you confirm that the "silent shutter" setting is the same as the x100 - as in really silent?

For a while the articles seemed to indicate that with the new sensor came a new shutter that would be noisey like the xp1 and xe1, but in reading the x100s manual, I see that it still syncs flash up to 1/2000 which sounds to me like it must have the same shutter as the x100?

thanks

Tom

Thanks so much... the one hangup I had was to have at least one camera that was silent enough to use in sensitive areas...sounds like x100s is the same or better than the x100 (which was great).

cheers,

tom

From what I've used it's super quite, leaf shutter little "shick" sound, similar to a M6 or one of those canon q17s if you've used them.

Only downside to it is that wide apertures only allow up to 1/1000 instead of 4000 so the built in nd filter came in handy because the river is quite bright.

Everything about it is like the x100 except it actually works haha. Seems quite a bit sharper too but Lightroom 4.4 makes the photos a bit painterly so hopefully LR 5 will improve x sensor processing more.

Thanks, Timmy

That is all I could hope for... I've gotten myself one, but can't open the box for about a week till our anniversary :)

Cheers,

Tom
