Cheers guys,
I really do like the Foveons probably the only sensor that little revived by digital interest (I'm from a newer generation - started with digital, but after many years I got really bored with the tech-race and switched to film where I found my true love and passion of photography).
I don't think my DP2s is for long, it's already overdue since it's endured well over 10 000 shots and from what I read many users have them failing between 3000-6000 shots. Hoping I can fetch someone's s/h Merill for a reasonable price in the future though...

Can someone please tell me how to check the number of shots made, I can't find it in the menu?
It seems I'm not used to the ways of digital at all as 10.000 seems not an awful lot, I'm sure I have to be over 2000 already at least. At this rate I'll need to buy a new one every couple of years, if not sooner - doesn't seem very fair, mildly put. Or am I missing something?

I would to know as well...if there is a hidden menu option to show the true shutter count as opposed to depending on the picture file number count since that can be reset..

Can u point me to the discussion threads about this issue? This is first time I have heard about this?
Thanks

The best camera is one that still works!
But you'll know when it's reached its maximum ... it will stop working!

I accidentially stumbled on some website that claimed those numbers for Sigma DP cameras as a possible "failure-rate". Can't find it with Google now.
It got me little concerned too.
I think my DP2s is more close to 20 000 shots judging the file numbers and resets I've done to it so there could be some "lemons" in those tests or claims too. As said mine is dented, bent and screws missing, sand between the lens, but still shoots.

Lol true.. Keith
But if I happen to one day pick up a used Merrill would nice to know how many shots have been taken w/ it. I am still on lookout for a dp3m (used does not bother me). The number of shutter actuations seems on the low side for a failure issue to crop up.

Lovely photos Margus ... what a sensible choice of camera the Sigma was!

From a leaf shutter perspective, I would expect at least 100 to 200k given how long large format leaf shutters last.. I have a Linhof 4x5 w/ its original lens and shutter that I have dated to 1937.. Granted these are electronically controlled shutter vs mechanical.
I kind of think it may have been a bad batch or lot..
Thanks for the update.

I found the discussion thread. It does not pertain to the shutter itself.. The issue is around the ribbon cable on the retractable lens used on the prior generation dp cameras.
