Post your foveon DP & SD1m Images

Once u start thinking three dp's, is it time to think sd1m? The 17-70f2.8-4 or the 17-50f2.8 on the sd1m would be perfect... Or that new 18-50ishf1.8. But then again the dp's are dead quiet and w/o mirror slap probably shoot lower shutter speed.

Jon has all three dp Merrill's. if I remember correct, if he carries two it is the 1 and 3. If he takes one then it is the dp2m.

I can crop to about 50% and get very usable images w/ the 2x expand off the output from spp it helps a lot.

I just love the form factor of the DPMs ... I really don't enjoy using my D700 much in spite of it's phenominal capabilities.

This attitude could change of course ... and who knows what Sigma have planned next! 😀
 
U caught me updating my post 😛. check out the update above. Lol.

But I agree, the form factor is really nice. I still grab the dp before the sd1m but this 17-70 zoom may make me start changing my mind. On the other hand the dp works so naturally for me in monochrom, it still may end up my default just because I like shooting monochrom more than color.

@ LousiB: Just tried the lomography ring flash on my dp3m, it will fire the flash but that's about it. The flash menu is not even active when the flash is on 🙁 Anyway, in this DP3M Review the reviewer is using a pocket wizard with a Yongnuo 560 II , have a look.

I chose the G2 and bought a couple of them. The G4 is a bit wider but the height is much the same so I couldn't see the point and the G2 has the shape that allows you to curl a finger around the top of it.

It's a minimalist solution but I wasn't having that much trouble using the camera without to be honest so I figured I didn't really need anything too significant. Very quick and easy to fit and I'm very happy with the improvement ... and cheap! 🙂

Maybe use the sea of people to your advantage to get a more seamless stitch -- use a long shutter for each shot. Could be an interesting result if it works... I'm not even sure I've seen something like that before.

EDIT: Assuming the art/installations are static of course.

I'm actually very tempted to use my Widelux Harry ... maybe with some PanF or something that will have resolution to match the Sigma. I think I have some Acros 100 left which would probably be even better. 🙂

The prior gen sensor, I have always felt the Picts are just creamy smooth look w/ good details And color, but I really love the b&w from them even better. I have been tempt a couple of times to pick up one myself.

B&W tones from SD15 look good to my eye too! monochrome mode of SPP works only with Merrill files (?), but never used it so cant miss something dont know 😛

If I remember correctly for the Merrill only. The silver fx pro works pretty well.

Had a chance to take a walk today w/ my SD1m and 18-200.. around the local reservoir.. Of course went back and took some more bee shots..

All taken with DP2M. The pano shots are all crops, no stitching. The day started out kind of cloudy today...but cleared up nicely by around 2PM or so. Decided to drive over to San Francisco for the day since my wife needed to take care of some business over there. anyway after lunch, we decided to head over to Golden Gate Bridge and take the walk across 😀

Bay bridge approach - traffic jam.. being the bored passenger decided to take this shot as we were on the approach ramp.

Both shots from SD1M using 18-200mm zoom and at the 200mm focal length.

This cloud shot I decided I liked better in B&W then color so converted the color TIFF to B&W using SEP2.

This one was converted to monochrome in SPP using the color wheel to get rid of high ISO noise. Noise setting were at -2 and color wheel set so that predominance was in the blue percentage. Later decided it would also look better with kind of an old look to it so did additional processing in SEP2.
