If you have one...

I need one and would like to see your ideas of how you have your studio/office/man or woman-cave/closet/basement, what-have-you set up for all of the rest of your photography. All I have is a desk and a closet for storing my bags.

Really, shooting is just a small percentage of time spent doing photography, so it would be nice to have both an organized space but one that also has display options and mounted photographs, etc. So, any ideas you have with your own or someone else's would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any idea of the total amount of space you use where you live, just for photography?😀

Previously posted. A spare bedroom located beside a bathroom. Plumbing for darkroom sink connected through the common wall. 10 by 15 feet. Homemade table, shelves, counter.

Ahhh..that is my first question, Frank. In regards to needing plumbing for developing/work space, is there some portable sink with wheels that would accommodate needs for processing film in a spare bedroom? Something that could stay in the closet and be wheeled out to use when the film backlog builds up? I will not be doing any darkroom printing or even inkjet...just processing film for scanning. But, my wife will not be happy with me using her guest bathroom for my endeavors.

Okay, I am looking for the following:

-Black bookcase w/ glass doors. Will use red velvet/velour on the shelves.

-Leica sign (lighted or not)

-Kodak sign

-Memorabilia as long as it is photography related.

I have wanted one of these for YEARS and I can never find one. Not at any flea market or yard sale or vintage sign shop yet I see dozens of them in independent camera shops all over the country.

There is at least one Kodak sign on ebay for $499, I believe...way too much for me. I would prefer photographica (is that a real word?) in tin sign form like the automobilia signs that go for $19.95.🙂

It's not dedicated to photography alone.

1. Kodak movie film cans from a movie producer friend, used to store uncut processed 35mm film awaiting scanning
2. Nikon Coolscan 5000 with batch slide feeder and strip film feeder
3. My old MacBook Pro, running Windows XP for compatibility with Nikon Scan (I use Vuescan otherwise, but it doesn't support Digital ICE4 Pro on the Coolscan 9000)
4. Nikon Coolscan 9000, for medium format and Kodachrome slides (Digital ICE4 can cope with Kodachrome)
5. Cameras, lenses and chargers
6. Gigapan EPIC 100 robotic panorama head in a Timbuk2 lens carrier
7. Rubbermaid roughneck tub with lenses and flashes
8. Epson V500 flatbed scanner
9. Mac Pro
10. Gitzo 1127 and Traveler Ti tripods
11. Porta-Trace light table with 6x6 slides from my father
12. Epson R2400 printer
13. Wotancraft Ryker 800, the only bag I have that's an actual camera bag
14. Cameras and lenses, a small proportion of the total
15. Slides and negatives in archival boxes
16. Canon Selphy 4x6 dye-sub printer, for when I need quick and dirty prints
17. Ona Bags insert with lenses
18. Box with Print-File archival slide and film protectors
19. Ikea architect-style drawers, 2 of them hold 13x19 paper for the Epson, among other things

I can only boast of one chair and a folding table in the 10x10 room I sit in whilst typing this. Thanks for pointing out everything, as it helps in compiling my own list of what I think I will need for the next year or two.:angel:

If I had the room, I'd put in proper vertical filing cabinets. Print-File makes metal rods that you can slip into their film protectors and hang them as if they were file folders. I am still going over boxes of slides my father left me, and already have 11 of the Calumet/Beseler archival film storage boxes.

No photos but I can tell you mine is in two areas.

Film developing: 24" of a 12" wide shelf over the utility room sink. That stores 4 Patterson tanks, a gallon of fixer, bottles of HC-110, Rodinal and DDX, little bottle of PhotoFlo, 3 stacked measuring containers largest is 1 gallon, dial thermometer, $5- WalMart digital timer, and changing bag. This is all I have ever used to develop film for 12 years.

Typical home office with desktop PC, 2 printers and film scanner on adjacent small table. Bookcase with several shelves full of boxes negatives (by series) and proof prints (by series). 4' of shelf space for cameras & bags. I think I only own 4 cameras.

Should I count the 8 big tubs and 2 shipping containers containing about 200 framed prints from exhibits? They are in a spare bedroom.
