On the advice of a colleague of mine I picked up one of these little Fuji cameras. Although I primarily use B+W film, this thing is a lot of fun for non-serious 'walking about' sort of work. It's quite nice for B+W digital but the color palette is also pleasing. Definitely enjoyable to use although for me manual focusing is a bit slow and awkward. And the auto focus can miss at times. But overall it's a nice little package.

If you're new to the x100 (and you've got an x100, not an x100s) then you should check that you have the latest firmware update. The latest version is 2.01, and this update improves AF considerably, and MF is also much improved over any of the firmware 1.xx releases, making it quite usable.
You can check which version you have by pressing and holding the DISP/BACK button whilst switching on the camera. The currently-installed firmware version will then be displayed on the screen. Here's a link to the update page.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the info, I appreciate it. I do have the X100S but I should check for any firmware updates. The manual focusing technique with the X100s is slow because I'm slow
I like using this camera as a digital B+W camera and appreciate that I can set the jpegs for B+W and see B+W through the EVF (and yet still have color if desired in the raw files.) It's visually helpful for me.

I agree - that's how I use my x100 most of the time.

I found that I had to set it -1/-2 exposure to get properly exposed images. Especially at night. My night shots are all crazy intense with it set to 0. (Auto Shutter, Auto Aperture, Manual Focus)

first time shooting with my X100 (pic here with the gs645s I got too), picked one up during my thanksgiving break home. $450 including a black gariz half case (which I don't want if anyone wants to PM me and take it off of my hands for cheap), lens hood and skylight filter, 16GB SDHC card, and two batteries. seller thought the LCD was cracked (he was the 2nd owner), but it turns out it was just a GGS glass screen protector that had cracked. I've got a GGS replacement coming in soon.
already really liking my first digital camera in years.
sat in with my friend's group shoos off during a practice session for their upcoming show at the detroit bar in costa mesa this december 10. (free!)
shot jpeg, all slightly adjusted in gimp. I'm still figuring out this whole digital darkroom deal...

American trucks, a myth for us in Europe, quite impressive !

I went for work, to the States in October, took some few pictures in the transports (unfortunately no time to stop)
I have to say I felt welcomed, sometimes very surprised and lost in front of such a big place, surprised by the huge differences in behavior considering how close European and American societies looks the same....
Anyway, I hope to go back there, take a few days to see Mount Saint Helens...
