I just got a used M8. I noticed that the exposure arrows are blurry. Is this normal? Also, how load is the shutter? I have an MP and an rd-1 and it seems much louder then either of them.

Thanks,

Bill

Shutter sound: The shutter isn't loud, it's the motor that rewinds it for the next shot. Leica has a new shutter they will begin installing in August, at a cost of 1200 Euros (right now that's just under $1800 USD). It's said to be quieter, but it still has the motor sound afterward. Even if it's half as loud as the M8, that would make it still twice as loud as an M6. I've used my M8 inside cathedrals and at theater performances and I haven't noticed any more heads turning than when I used an M6 in the same kinds of places. I do have a Luigi case on my M8, maybe that's helping deaden some of the sound. Have someone stand ten feet away and fire the M8 while you listen, you might relax about the noise. It's always louder when the camera is six inches from your ears.

LED arrows: I have the same thing. The M8 is not the same as an SLR, where the display numbers and the viewfinder image are both on the same plane. I wear glasses for distance and also for reading, so my eyes no longer focus at close and far the way they used to. If I position my eye so I'm looking through the closeup part of my glasses the LED's are sharp but the subject image isn't, and vice versa. It's the same with my M6. This could be what's happening with you also.

Thanks. I did not notice the clarity or lack therof on the arrows in my MP. Also, based on the MP and the Epson, I was worried that the shutter was so loud it would disturb people. I am glad to hear it did not even in church.

If Leica made it so the shutter didn't rewind until you take your finger off the release (or if you could assign it to one of the back buttons), then you could muffle the camera while it rewinds. If I put my Motor Winder M on my M6 it sounds like the M8, so the noise is 99% coming from the motor.

I shot a few shots at the fair yesterday and it occurred to me that its digital. I don't think you rewind digital because there is no film to advance.
