Hello all, I'm in the market for a new flash for my fuji gw690III, and currently use a vivitar 285 flash. I'm looking for something a little more powerful, where I can stop down to f/22 or f/32 at nighttime. Anyone have any suggestions on a hand held alternative?

Generally, any SCA or pre SCA Metz CT45 - the former are digital incompatible and hence cheap, the latter aditionally have a reputation for frying electronic cameras (irrelevant on the all-mechanic Fuji) so that they are even cheaper. Not small (potato mashers) but solid as a tank, and with very conservatively calculated guide numbers (with a non-zoom reflector covering 28mm where most other makers barely claim similar numbers at their most narrow zoom setting).

You might try buying another Vivitar 285 and mounting them in tandem (with a slave). These handheld or portable flashes have a top output.

I got the Metz 45 CT-4 digital. It works with all of my cameras. Very even lighting! You even have an accessory head for instant fill-in flash.
