I know. Even the best shades don't help. I had the same problems with mine. Finally I found a fully coated one. Coating improves the performance of the Summar a lot and makes clear that it is an excellent lens, even by modern standards.
The uncoated Summar however has its charms, but it is not an universal lens.

it also doesnt help that my summar has the black painted flocking removed in parts because the paint just started flaking off.
In a lot of situations though I find my summar to be a very excellent performer. Very impressive how it does for something almost 80 years old.

Yes, absolutely. The Summar is great when the light is coming from behind the photographer. A good shade, like the black FLQOO, helps too. Not the SOOMP. Unfortunately the FLQOO is more expensive than the Summar itself.
