Prepaid Mailers

Hey all, I was just wondering what you all thought of the fuji prepaid mailers? Do they do good work? Are there any problems with the shipping?

Also, what films do you all use for color slide? I seem to use the whole 100F/400F fuji family. Kinda odd.

Thanks!

Robert

I have used the Kodak prepaid mailers before, they do good work, but are a little slow. Same comments for A&I, I bought a bunch of their mailers for 120 film. Within the last few months a photo/camera shop moved to the next town over from me and their prices are about the same as the mailers so I have stopped buying them. If you don't have a local place to process the mailer work.

I have used hundreds of Fuji mailers over the years. Most of the time I send a large amount in at a time. If they are sent express mail (several rolls in a box) than they are returned by express mail. I usually send at least 10 rolls in at a time. If I had less it would be move cost effective to mail individual rolls. This speeds the process up. About 10 days from Washington State to Phoenix and returned.

I used mostly Velvia 50 and Fuji 100 with some ektracrome 100 mixed in.

A few months ago I did a comparison between Fuji and Kodak mailers. Fuji is definitely faster, but I think the quality of Kodak was better. With Kodak it usually takes between 1-1/2 and 2 weeks from when I mail the film out and when I receieve the slides. Fuji was typically less than 1-1/2 weeks. Kodak uses plastic mounts and Fuji uses paper. I prefer plastic mounts because they tend to have less dust which facilitates scanning. Lately, I've been using a local photo shop to get my slides processed uncut (easier to scan) for around $3 more per roll. I hate waiting for the mailer to come back. I guess I'm a part of that "instant gratification" generation.

On an aside, has anyone sent another company's film to one of these developers (i.e. Fuji film in a Kodak mailer)? If so, what were the results?
