price check - m4-p

This is to one side of the question you asked but it's probably relevant. I owned an M4-P for maybe 10 years. It was one of the brass-top versions, finished in bright chrome. It may not have had quite the same sound or feel as my M3 or M4, but it ran like a top and did everything we expect an M to do perfectly. My only beef, which would apply to every M since the -P, is that I really don't get on well with the 75mm framelines, but that is a personal mind/eye thing that probably doesn't apply to anyone else. So, if you find a good price, I would buy without reservation.

Minor ps: the late ones have M6 top covers and I think they were more likely than others to have zinc plating issues, so if you get one with the flush M6 windows you might want to check for that.

An addition to Newell's comment: if you find an early one with a brass
cover, it will also allow you to adjust the RF yourself, without the later
M6 mechanism that requires a special tool (> 200 US).

Roland.

75mm framelines might be a good thing.
i could get a cv 75 which i think is a great lens. i used the 75 i had before way more than i use my current 90.

Joe,
I bought one at the end of December for $850, and it was in excellent condition. It is all black and has just minor rubbing on the base plate. I checked e-bay and other places where I had seen one and it was the going rate at the time for one in such good condition.

Works like a charm. If you see one, don't hesitate:).

there is one that i might trade the contax plus lens for.
i'm waiting to hear more info about the leica and how the trade might go.
i had an m4-p before.

I did see the 'trade' word but the IIa and lenses should allow other options, if you want to use your zm lenses, you might get a nice black leiciavit, to go with the M4-2, ...

Nick took JC to a high place...

Sorry failed to communicate - the ZM lenses would work on the M4-2, so it (or any M) is a rationalisation?

What's the fuss with the M4-2 nd M4-p? Because they're made in Canada? If they we're made in the USA I'm sure they'd be seen as "the best and most exotic Leicas". It's a Urban legend kinda thing. I own a M4-P I purchased for 750$ and I couldn't be happier. I love it and the M3 equally. The M4P snaps stronger, has stronger gears so basically it's a mean machine made to last.

sorry, misunderstood.

yes, any m would do. i started out and would still prefer a cle but an m4-p was put on the table and it would be a good 3rd m body. and being manual/mechanical has it's benefits also.
an m4 would be great but they are more expensive i think and so far none has presented itself.

not sure where that came from!
so far you're the only one talking about being made in canada (where i happen to live btw).
i'm open for any variation of m4...

Generally, the canadian M cameras are seen as being of lesser quality. I'm not sure where it comes from, either. But it certanly isn't correct.
