Price for a second hand Leica M7 a la carte

Hello everyone!

I would like to know if paying 1700 $ for a second hand Leica M7 a la Carte with a 0.72 viewfinder is a fair price. I've been said that conditions are excellents.

its few hundred less I paid for good second hand a-la-carte M7 late last year. dont think this is any kind of reference though, but I've been happy about the camera since. no problems of what so ever.
 
It depends on different factors.

Which serial no? earlier ones go from 1250,- EUR to 1450,- EUR - later ones even up to 1800,- EUR (all standard 0.72 finder and no specials).

I paid around 1400 EUR for a 0.85 black chrome in mint condition. It still has the old DX reader (golden contacts) and might have not the latest MP finder upgrade (not sure about that).

I would not give any cent more for a "a la carte" model label in the advertisement. It can mean from simply having a 0.85 finder (like mine) without any other "extras" (basically just differentsies, not upgrades) to a optically fully changed model with different levers, leather, finder magnification, engraving, etc.

In my book, they are not worth more money, just different from the usual breed.
You get a good shooter M7 from 1250,- EUR on these days. the difference buys already a lens.

Btw - 1.700,- EUR is around the border, to get a nice used MP (just to cook up some thinking).

Btw $ 1700 = 1210 € !

the price id usd so in € is around 1200 €.
The only custom thing is the coulour and a the "lattest viewfinder model" without the 75mm frame, which surerly will not affect the pictures at all.
Serial is 27855** so seems to be one of the lattest models of M7 ...
The owner is a professional photographer, so it should be in good conditions.

I over read the $ sign ;-)

Sounds like a fair price and resembles the same going rates for the older M7 here in Shanghai.

As your serial is lower than my 285xxxx from 2004, it should be one from the earlier years of the M7.

If you need good working DX reading, make sure, the readers have been upgraded. Mine has still the old readers, but I push B&W film anyway, so I could care less about DX reading.

I would be very, very interested, if there are any indicators for the MP finder upgrade, which can be seen from the outside.
About my 0.85, I am not sure (it does flare similar though to my M6 0.72 classic).
 
A Professional photogrpher is the last person I would purchase used equipment from unless I can personally examine the equipment. Professionals use thier euqipment for the most part whereas many Leica users just look at thier equipment and hardly use it.-Dick

i will disagree with that , i prefer when buying used cameras that the equipment was actually used not sitting on a shelf of some collector and the shutter randomly fired every once in awhile .
 
professional or non-professional, I prefer whichever one has not been abused. I have bought cameras from professional in pristine condition and cameras from hobbyist in beatup condition.
 
descent, however there will be better deals.

i recently found a BP M7 that resembles a MP for not much over 2k.
I'm stoked!

I'm a pro, it will be used heavily and cared for well, however i would say that photographers gear is more used that amateur's!

Sure not the best business in the world but I decided to buy it. Been saving for a while to have one. It's quite a beautiful camera in really good conditions with normal signs of use. And has the improved viewfinder.
The former owner usually works with large format camera ..

Next step a 35mm lens ... maybe next year ...
