What is the price range for a black '74 black chrome M4 in excellent shape? Working nicely, only normal sign of usage in rewind crank, eye cup...etc...normal places. I tried to google, but no success. Ebay had some black M4 sold recently for just under 2000 USD...

To keep the camera or to sell it and buy couple of lenses and shoot with my other M? That is the question.

Prices on, black chrome, M4 bodies haven't fluctuated that much over the last few years. Don´t sell it!

Mint boxed (Wetzlar): $2700
Mint (Wetzlar): $2500
Ex++ (Wetzlar): $2000

Canadian version:D is much less common only 550 made.

Black chrome M4's are generally valuable to collectors, and value is dependent on condition. This is much more so for black painted M4's.

Only you can decide whether this is important to you. Freeing up the money could get you into many more things, like lenses, etc.

...Vick

I agree with Robin. Keep it. IF you sell it, you'll spend the money, sell the lenses, look for another black chrome M4 and never find it. In the end, you'll be miserable for the rest of your life.

JK! :)

Seriously now... I'd keep it. They're hard to come by, and when they do, the prices are a relatively high.

OTOH, which other Leica M bodies do you have?

I have the M4 and a black M6 classic... I have to say that I am a user all the way, I am not too careful with my equipment and my M6 was like new when I got it and now after couple of years of use it has lot of scratches and other signs of use... When I got the M4 the first thought what came to me was that if I will keep it I will glue that plastic tip to the film advance lever...like I did with my M6 :D I would like to keep the M4, but with the price of it I could buy M4-P and would have money to couple of CV lenses...28/2 and 35/1.4...perhaps.. Right now I have two bodies and only 35mm ultron :)

Life is too complicated, haha..

I see... that sounds like my first six months of Leica ownership. I had two bodies (the first was a carefully planned purchase, the second, an impulse buy) and only one lens for what now seems like a loooooooooooooong time.

And then, after saving a little, I ran across a lens so perfectly taken care of, and so well priced, that I still have it to this day.

Like you, I did put my "mark" on my cameras and lenses. That lens I bought shows a lot of, say, experience now.

In short, keep that body, just lie in waiting, be patient. You'll get to have two bodies and two lenses soon.

Take care!

Sell the black M4; this camera is too expensive for use; it is more a 'vitrine camera"

Buy for that money a 'black' M4-P and several lenses!

I think this is what I will do after all... If someone is interested in this M4, send me a message...if not, later I will do a proper add with more pictures. Thanks for your comments.
