I bought mine off *bay about 18 months ago for $1200. It is a ~2002 year production model and came with the box, case and manual. It has a warranty card but I the "fillable" portion had already been sent it. It is the standard black version and was like new in every way when it arrived. I have definitely given it more use than it had seen up to the point I acquired it.

I just re-read Erwin Puts Leica Lens Compendium ( updated edition ) and I was shocked to read that Erwin feels the 50mm ASPH 1.4 matches the quality of the non-asph Summilux at 5.6 !! You can read it yourself
http://www.imx.nl/photosite/leica/mseries/SummiluxASPH/s14-50.html
I know Erwin gets a lot of crap, but I am interested in what he writes and feel much of what he writes is relative and meaningful
Come to your own conclusions, but its worth the read.

i've searched quite a lot for pre/asph versions of 50mm... if you can dig up my thread, loads of usefull info about v1, v2 and v3 pre/asph 50mm there... I settled for a mint v3 preashp with card unfilled bought at a store ( which stamped the card and therefore I got a leica warranty, cant get better than that ) for around 1750 usd... yes, it was steep but the thing was absolute mint ( first time I had to agree with a seller when he said "this was problably sitting on a collecters shelf since day 1", because hte thing is M/I/N/T ), plus the thing that it came with a 1 year warranty from the store and the original blank warranty from Leica that the store stamped and therefore I got a full leica warranty scored the deal.
First couple of rolls came in and Im in love - sharp when stopped down, creamy dreamy bokeh wide open, 0.7m focusing distance is very nice.
seriously advise it !
