Has anyone come across these viewfinders? Any ideas how much would it cost? I am talking about the square viewfinder that often comes with the Russar 20/5.6 lens. (See here: http://www.cameraquest.com/russian.htm ) Searches on the internet + auction site bring results for viewfinder together with lens, and prices seem all over the place. I 've only found one old thread in Rff (from 2005) where a member purchased the viewfinder for $85. Would that price be in the ballpark today?

No clue, but I got mine for such a price. I use it with lenses from 19-21.
I would google it.

Thanks much, Raid. Feverish googling and regoogling did not return any other results bar the one mentioned, so it was back to the collective.
Any other input on recent price(s) will be very appreciated.

I sold mine to Raid. That's about what I paid for it. $85 seems OK to me.

Funny, I just re-read Camerquests description of the finder. I owned one briefly along with the Russar lens itself, and I don't remember the finder being as great as he describes. I remember it being square and clunky, and sticking up high from the camera making it difficult to slip into a bag.
Sure, the Rissar finder has parallax correction on the foot, but in practice, that's just another thing to fiddle with for me. I prefer to just have extra little marks in the finder itself.
These are just my opinions, and as I wrote, I only owned the lens and the finder briefly. (My copy of the lens was appallingly bad...)

I tried this lens and VF 30 years ago, in fact I tried 3 or 4. Wasn't impressed at all. Now that VC has a 21 mm lens and finder for a very reasonable price, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for the Russian lens and VFFunny, I just re-read Camerquests description of the finder. You are not likely to find the VF for cheap; probably easier to find the worse but cheaper Cosina Voigtlander plastic 21 finder.

I think you just need to be patient. I got one with an older (silver) Russar lens as shown in my picture, and I was happy with it. They do appear separately on ebay occasionally.
It is big and clunky, but provides a good image.

Thank you all, much appreciated. Actually I have the aforementioned viewfinder (it came with a lens I bought a couple of years back) and I am trying to figure an appropriate price to resell. I guess $85 is about right, taking into account condition too.
