Can someone guide me on an estimated price for a 50 Summicron Dual Range? I do try and do my research prior to purchasing locally but I figured I would also ask the pros on here. There is a Summicron selling locally that seems to be in some pretty decent condition. From the video sent to me it seems as though there is a pretty pristine front element, no oil on blades, seems like some paint as scratched from the blades though, and it is clear of haze. (though of course things may be more noticable in person.) The lens also some with a set of the goggles. I want to make sure I pay a reasonable price and if it's too high and unwilling to haggle I'll just wait.

Thanks in advance!

I think Raid's estimate is good. There may be cheaper deals, but I say get a clean one and pay a little more. I bought one for 800€ earlier this year, but it has a little haze that can't be cleaned easily (I tried but couldn't separate the elements affected).

Do you know whether it's an early or late model? The scalloping of the focus ring will tell you later models have a narrower pattern. From my research I suspect that later models are a bit less prone to haze. But that might be entirely untrue.

Also, make sure that the focus mount and lens block separate and check the serial numbers of both. AFAIK they should match to ensure proper focus accuracy. You can unscrew the lens block by grabbing the front ring and turning counterclockwise.

And check if the goggles are fine optically and close focusing works reasonably well.

I own a clean DR that came to me without goggles. I may be imagining it, but images appear as sharper than what I get from my two Rigid Summicron (which are sharp).

I would start here on RFF to find a trustworthy seller. Total strangers online may be risky in comparison.

Yeah, I just happened to see one selling locally. I figured I could see it in person, inspect it myself for any discrepancies and make my decision. Thing it, for just about the same price of the local one I saw one at a reputable used camera outlet online, like KEH, for the same price and that one comes with the warranty. So I’m going back and forth in my head on making a decision.

option 1: Get the one with the warranty (if everything else is very similar).
option 2: Get a discount locally after pointing out the other offer with warranty.
option 3: wait for a better offer online

The benefit of online purchase on one of the big auction site is the buyer protection. I recently bought M4 with DR, at very decent price. There was a bit of haze, but I thought I could live with that. But when I run a test roll I discovered the lens was back focusing a lot. I was sure it was lens and not camera, because my another lens was spot on using the same M4. Also - I could not unscrew the optical element which is not normal. I could not have noticed this back focus issue by inspection in person without shooting a test roll. I have sent the lens back.
