I have just set the shutter speed prior to bringing the M3 to my eye. No problem at all for me (so far) that the dial turns the opposite way than the one on my M6 TTL.

Nothing solves the problem better than shooting wide open. Set the meter on 1/1000, then the f-stop and shoot away!
Yet... at times I wonder which way to turn so as to gain a bit of DOF...

Nothing to make your day brighter than a package in the mail!

I got my M6 TTL about six months ago in a reputable shop "A+". Not cheap- € 1400,-- but well, service etc (Don't forget, in Cameraland 1$=1€). I had to complain when it arrived
- A brand new factory demo (double checked by Leica) in a sealed box and sealed plastic with the red demo sticker unbroken.... I felt pretty lucky.

I have the camera now, and an interesting problem. It turns out that the framelines have been knocked off in the mail, and now only 50/75 are working as they should. 35/135 are partly visible but 28/90 won't show up at all. Does this sound like something that could be easy for a repairman to fix or is it insanely expensive?
The rangefinder is slightly misaligned horizontally but I believe I can fix that myself. I only use 50mm anyway so I'll accept the sellers offer [everything else seems to be working but I have yet to shoot a test roll] for a refund and keep the camera since it would be very cheap as long as I don't want to use another focal length.
edit: It doesn't look like I can adjust it myself, the screw is too tight and I don't want to damage anything.

Biber, where's the screw you're talking about? Did you have to remove the red dot to find it?
From what I've read, that's where the RF adjusting screw is in the newer Leicas. Also, it seems that you need a jewelers' tool set to adjust it.
Seems to me the frameline fixing is a job for a Leica repairman. Even if you're planning on using a 50mm lens only. Now... how's the meter doing?

The meter is giving the same readings as my VCII (which is giving the same readings as my Eos3). No problems there. The shutter looks alright, I'm running a roll through it right now. I'll develop the film tonight after I've been down in the harbor. Overall it seems to be in good condition except for the framelines and the horizontal misalignment.
The horizontal screw is the one at the arm at the top of the lens mount, you can adjust it with a screwdriver. I have done it before on my M4-P but it was easier to turn. The vertical is harder to reach, it's behind the dot on the M6 and I think you need a special tool to adjust it. Vertical alignment is fine though.

Good... I didn't know that.
I'm sure the images will turn out OK, and you'll be able to wait in the framelines (no need to fix something you won't use, right?)
Keep us posted!

I'll probably leave it to the repairman next week and have him adjust the rangefinder and have a look at the framelines at the same time. If it's something easy to fix I'll tell him to repair it right away but otherwise I'll just use it as it is until I have to fix it.
I'll finish the deal with the seller tomorrow anyway.

I got my refund today, the priced ended at $375. I just have to let the repairman adjust the rangefinder and have a look at what it would cost to repair the framelines now.

Flamingo,
I picked up a M6 classic .72 for $1150 at the Buena Park camera show and an M6TTL .85 for $1250 off fleaBay. The M6TTL.85 is damn near new so I have no complaints. I accept paying perhaps a little extra for something I want. The .58 is more scarce item, but here are a few links in case you don't have them. Good luck hunting....

Flamingo,
Plain M6s with a 0.72 viewfinder are easy to find. The other magnfications are a bit steeper. I was initially thinking of getting the 0.58, but wound up with a 0.72. I'm really happy with it because it really allows me to use ANY focal length (and the magnification is better than the Contax G I used to shoot with).
The links above are good. In fact, I purchased my first Leica from Don Chatterton. He's offering a black one right now for the price I paid for mine.
Good luck!
