I'm not sure they would delay it. Frenzy over a newly announced camera seems to fade pretty quickly these days. Something tempting shows up in the Classifieds, I know where by camera buying dollars are going...it's that GAS thing. ;)
 
The info I have is that the camera will arrive in the Spring. I am guessing at the big March Tokyo show. No price info yet.

In March you say? This is going to be a long cold winter. If ti then comes with some crazy price tag it could break my heart (or my bank account)
 
Why wouldn't they announce a price? At least, so that that they can more accurately gauge the interest? Right now, with all the speculation, they have no idea what their market/audience is. It's an old design, shooting MF film. It's already 'niche.' If the price is over $1500, it's double top-secret niche. The only thing i can think of is that they're still working on ways to manufacture it at a lower cost than originally planned.

But, March may be too late for me. If i knew something now, i'd possibly hold off. But, i'm looking into buying my last film camera, and by March, either the labs will be closed, or i'll be too fed up with them to want to continue giving them my business. Not to mention film discontinuations....

So you want to know the price of a camera now, which will not be available until about next March when you cannot get the film developed?

Yes. One of tht difficulties is finding a competent lab. I have read a number of histories of photographers and they all complained about labs. For the most part they solved the problem by building their own labs and hiring their own technicians; a simple but costly solution.
 
I have two local places: one says she can develop, but not scan or print 120; and the other says he thinks he can develop and scan 120, but maybe not.

My buying decision is resting on their lack of knowledge of their equipment.

Which part are you having trouble with?

1. Yeah, i want to know the price now. It was announced almost a year ago. If you think it's unreasonable to want to know, at this point, what it's going to cost, then say so. But, you're participating in a thread speculating on the price point, so one might assert that your thinking is a bit 'disjointed.'

2. No one, including myself, is suggesting that labs will be non-existent in March.
 
I would love to know the price now. If it is reasonable (to me), then I can start saving for it. If it's above what I call reasonable, then I can just forget about it and enjoy shooting with other cameras!!

Some people are sounding more than a little testy here, if I say so myself. That said, I don't think it's unreasonable to want to have some price point for a camera we all covet. But given the state of the global financial economy, we couldn't predict the value of the dollar or price of oil in three months, so the company's holding off on pricing is probably smart until they are ready to sell it. I mean, until today, we didn't know if GM or Chrysler would be in business at the end of January.

Sure, the economy is affecting things. But, aren't we approaching a full year since the announcement? Meanwhile, in the 'real photographic equipment world," Nikon announces a D3x for $8k+, the D3 and D700 have come out and Canon has the 5DMkII - from $2700 to $5000; Leica announced, showed and estimated the pricing of the S2 at a jillion dollars. Hasselblad continues with the evolution of the H-system, for $20-50k. Leica has the M8.2 and new, expensive glass. Super high-end manufacturers are creating, announcing, and selling cameras for much more money than this 6x7 camera will sell for. All within the same economy.

I don't think it's particularly smart to wait. They needn't provide a specific price. A simple range would suffice. As it stands, the camera is still just a 'concept' for most people, and a nebulous one at that. It's like, "wouldn't it be cool IF...?" Until a price is attached to it, it's pretty irrelevant. How many of us are specifically saving for this thing, and dedicating specific monies toward it? AND eschewing other possibilities?

I wanted this camera as much as anyone here. But, with all the questions, i just bought a GA645i and will get a 5DII by the end of the month. My 6x7 Folder money is no more. If i had had a price target and approximate release date, i probably would have made different choices.
 
I'll be interested in seeing the camera, but am very happy with my Mamiya 6 and Rollei SL66. Definitely not interested in purchasing it. :D
 
assuming it's officially announced at pma (march 3-5), when would it start shipping? a month later?
 
Well, I hope that some of our Australian members do realize their duties ;) to visit the PMA and report her ASAP :)

It was officially announced and on display at Photokina last October.

The Bessa III will arrive in the spring. Price not yet announced.

did they say anything about their approach for the new lens design? will it be comparable to the mamiya 7's 80/4, or did they do something more along the lines of the 35/1.4 nokton classic?
 
I just saw an article in Nippon Camera that said the price has not been decided but for the time being looks like 300,000 yen.
 
300 000 yen ... isnt that something like $3300 US.....WOW

maybe it will come with a free roll of film as well :D
