Problem ebay auctions?

Almost everyone who sells on eBay is honest.

It's anecdotal evidence that says otherwise.

Use your C-Card via PayPal to give you recourse and bid away!

The ...443 item is being relisted for the second(third attempt to sell) after being sold twice before. I contacted the buyer after the first relist with ?, and he replied "relisting".. Check with buyer before sending any money. Mike

I'm fairly convinced that both these auctions are scams.

I personally think ebay is a great resource and have a 200+ feedback. I have seen these kind of scams in coin auctions and one must be very wary of zero feedback sellers. I emailed the seller of the M4 a couple of times and he stated that the lens was included but would not confirm that he would accept Paypal (just ignored the question). I asked for a photo of the body with the lens off and also contacted the winner of the previous auction (no reply yet to either question).

I'll sit on the sidelines for this one. I hope someone doesn't get burned (it is interference with an auction to contact and warn a bidder). Or maybe someone will score a sweet Summilux 50/1.4 for cheap. That's the biggest flag by the way - no mention of the lens in the listing. Unless he/she really doesn't understand what they have...

Well, one hapy ending anyway: my seller-of-spotmatic-with-broken-meter apologised (profusely - obviously worried about losing his 100% rating) and agreed that the value of an SPII with no meter was about £20. Refund arrived within ten minutes, and I now have a spare body; not useless by any means.

And I've sourced another, working-meter SPII through RFF :)

Ebay

As someone who has bought and sold, here's my experience:

I have been stuffed a couple of times when buying. Both of them were low value purchases and when I was buying something I didn't know much about. I wrote it off to experience.

When selling, I describe everything as honestly as possible as thus so far I have 100% feedback. I would rather someone knew what they were buying than take angry emails/phone calls.

If you are selling, play with a straight bat. I've only had one buyer I had doubts over but we got there, most are friendly hobby types like us who just want a new bit of kit and are happy to pay. Keep a cool head and ask politely but persistently until you get there! Almost everybody is reasonable if dealt with reasonably.

When buying I read the feedback - a high rating means good news. Zero feedback is an unproven seller, so you are gambling up to a point. If you pay through paypal you will get your money back from them or your credit card company if you are ripped off.

If you feel even slightly odd about any transaction walk away and forget about it, even if you lose the cost of the advert or some time. Another better one will come along eventually.

I haven't found Ebay a particularly cheap source but an entertaining one and it's great for finding unusual or difficult stuff.

Ebay staff are very helpful when things go wrong.

I've bought approaching $10K of photo stuff incl leica lens, mostly from US, and occassionally collectables from Russia (small $). I was only burnt once for $20 item. For this guy I forgot to check feedback due to low dollar. That's the key. I only do 100%, or if less, read all negative feedback.
The two leica's on this thread sold in early December. Neither of the buyers or sellers have feedback related to these transactions. I find that odd? My personal experience is feedback is posted to almost 100% of my transactions, by both parties.
Oh well, now I have a iiic in mind, and the only place I'll likely find one is e-bay!
