Hey all: Perhaps someone can help answer this question:

I have a m6ttl .58 that I love and just bought a 3.5 summaron 35mm for it. To my disappointment, when I mounted the lens the 50mm framelines came up on the camera. Anybody else had this problem or know why this would be?!

I looked on the web but could not find any threads on this or other people having this problem. Help?! I really want to keep this lens.

thanks

Clay,

it is highly likely that you have picked up a Summaron that is supposed to be used with goggles. I am no expert on the f3.5 Summarons, though. If this is true, your copy was meant to be used on the M3, which does not have 35 framelines.

The trouble is, that focus will be off without the goggles, except at infinity. You could use scale focus, but you can not rely on the focusing patch - without the goggles.

Someone correct me if I am wrong - but from what you say, this appears most likely to me.

Greetings!
Ljós

Edit: and of course a fellow RFFer pointed out a useful thread, which I did not see when answering 🙂 I need to check MY goggles ;-)

there is an m-mount version that was supposed to be used on the M3 with an externval viewfinder / not with goggles. a simple nail file is enough a tool to convert it to bring up the 35mm lines.
